The Faculty of Education at The King’s University is seeking a sessional instructor in Secondary English
Education for January 2026. This course contains six class sessions starting on January 6, and ending
January 27.

EDUC 430 is a curriculum and instruction course for second-year B.Ed. (After Degree) students in teaching
English Language Arts and Social Studies at the high school level. The course is team taught with a Social
Studies and an English educator. This position is for the English half of the teaching team.

**COURSE DESCRIPTION**
EDUC 430: Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Physical
Education and Fine Arts II
This course focuses on the teaching of English language arts, social studies, and the various non-core
teachers discern the learning strategies, assessment theories and practices, and instructional management
issues appropriate for Senior High students. Pre-service teachers are encouraged to be intentional about
the strategies they use and reflective about their philosophy of education, view of human nature, and
assumptions they employ. This course is open only to students in the B.Ed (AD) Secondary program.

The course is offered following an intensive format in Winter term. The schedule is equitably shared
between Social Studies and English instruction, with the English portion of the course tentatively taking
place in-person on the following dates and times:

- Tuesday, January 6; 1:00-4:00 pm
- Thursday, Jan. 8; 1:00-4:00 pm
- Thursday, January 15; 1:00-4:00 pm
- Friday, January 16; 9:00 am-12:00 pm
- Thursday, January 22; 1:00-4:00 pm
- Tuesday, January 27; 1:00-4:00 pm

(An option to teach online may be considered.)
**QUALIFICATIONS** MA or PhD in Education or related field (highly experienced secondary English teachers with other
- qualifications may be considered)
- Professional teacher certification
- High School (10-12) teaching experience in English Language Arts
- Assent to the University’s Christian Statement of Faith
