An opportunity is available in the Capital Planning Branch within the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) division in Treasury Board and Finance. TBS is accountable for the government’s budgeting, spending and reporting processes, strategic plan, and providing standards for a ministry business plan. The Capital Planning Branch is responsible for delivering the Capital Plan within the province’s annual budget. The branch oversees implementation of comprehensive capital planning policies, processes and standards used by all ministries, develops, maintains and reports on the Government of Alberta Capital Plan and develops strategies to meet the needs for maintenance and preservation of existing infrastructure. The Capital Plan captures full life-cycle cost considerations with an understanding of long-term implications and the exploration of alternative options.

**Role Responsibilities**:
**Join Our Team as a Capital Planner**
Are you ready to take a leading role in shaping the development of public infrastructure for the Government of Alberta? The Capital Planning Branch is seeking a dynamic and skilled professional to fill the position of a Capital Planner. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the coordination and consolidation of crucial capital planning information, fiscal plans, briefing notes, and presentations during the annual budget process and throughout the year.
Reporting to the Manager of Capital Planning, you will be responsible for guiding the cross-ministry efforts to implement and report on the government’s capital maintenance and renewal program. This includes leading cross ministry teams to develop the annual capital plan reporting, as well as providing strategic advice and recommendation on future trends to support the development of the capital plan. Your role will also involve supporting the division leadership team and Treasury Board.
The Capital Plan is a critical component in the budgeting process, and your contributions will ensure that Alberta has the public infrastructure to support the delivery of programs and services in the context of the province’s fiscal priorities.
Specific accountabilities include but not limited to:
1. Supporting the Ministry’s budget and reporting activities related to capital plan.
2. Implementing and reporting on the capital maintenance and renewal program.
3. Supporting the leadership team in ensuring Treasury Board Secretariat deliverables are met efficiently.
4. Leading the continuous improvement of common methods, guidelines and techniques to define, assess, categorize and
management infrastructure requirement at a government-wide level.
5. Providing input and support to various cross-ministry task groups and working committees relating to management reporting,
project prioritization, capital renewal and maintenance, escalation management, alternative financing, asset management and
performance measurements for infrastructure facilities.
