**Overview**

**Responsibilities**:
**Material Preparation**:

- Preparation of metal specimens for testing, including cutting, grinding, and machining, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and documentation throughout the testing process.
- Follow established procedures and safety guidelines to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Use of flame cutting equipment (plasma, oxyfuel)
- Maintain an organized inventory of prepared specimens.

**Testing Support**:

- Conduct a range of mechanical tests on metal materials, including but not limited to tensile, hardness, impact, weld macro preparation/ etching, and bending tests, in line with ASTM, ASME, AWS, CSA, DNV, LR, ABS, ISO, and other relevant standards.
- Operate and maintain testing equipment, ensuring calibration and functionality.
- Record and analyze test data, providing summaries and reports as required.

**Welding Technology**:

- Work with the lab team to perform destructive and non-destructive tests on welded joints.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of welding procedures and techniques.

**Equipment Maintenance**:

- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Identify and resolve issues related to testing equipment or procedures, ensuring mínimal disruption to laboratory operations.

**Safety and Compliance**:

- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations within the laboratory.
- Participate in safety training and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and quality control procedures.

**Documentation and Reporting**:

- Maintain detailed records of all tests conducted, including parameters, results, and observations.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

**Collaboration**:

- Work collaboratively with the laboratory team to achieve project goals and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.
- Work closely with engineers, quality control teams, and clients to ensure that testing procedures meet specific project requirements.

**Continuous Improvement**:

- Assist in the development and implementation of new testing methods and procedures to enhance laboratory capabilities.

**Qualifications**:

- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in materials, mechanical, metallurgical engineering, welding engineering technology or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a focus on mechanical and metal material testing.
- Strong understanding of metallurgical principles and testing standards and proficiency in using laboratory equipment such as tensile testers, hardness testers, spectrometers, and microscopes.
- Familiarity with welding technology and related processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to follow established protocols and work independently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

**Preferred Skills**:

- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, with relevant certificates.
- Certification in relevant testing standards such as CSA W178.2 Welding Inspector Level 1, 2 or 3.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting software.

**Physical Job Requirements**:

- Some heavy lifting of welded steel samples.
- Must be able to lift a 25 lb weight above your head freely and unassisted.

**Application Process**:
Pay: $60,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
