**Role Description**
This is a full-time on-site role located in Markham, ON. The Vice President of Research and Development (R&D) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, execution, and management of all R&D functions within the organization. This role includes driving innovation, leading product development initiatives, and ensuring that all R&D efforts align with the company’s overall vision, mission, and business objectives. The VP of R&D plays a critical role in fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration while maintaining a strong focus on business outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Strategic Leadership**
- Develop and execute R&D strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the company’s strategic goals and long-term vision.
- Set clear priorities and measurable objectives to guide R&D activities and drive innovation.
**Team Management**
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of researchers and engineers.
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven work environment.
**Innovation and Product Development**
- Oversee the full product development lifecycle—from concept through launch—to ensure the timely delivery of innovative, high-quality products.
- Foster continuous improvement and ideation across R&D processes.
**Budget and Resource Management**
- Manage R&D budgets and ensure optimal allocation of resources.
- Monitor project timelines, costs, and outcomes to ensure alignment with financial and operational goals.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication**
- Partner with departments such as engineering, marketing, operations, and sales to ensure smooth coordination and integration of R&D initiatives.
- Champion cross-functional collaboration to accelerate innovation and market responsiveness.
**Technology and Market Trends**
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive developments.
- Identify opportunities to leverage innovation for strategic advantage.
**Performance Evaluation**
- Establish KPIs and performance metrics to assess R&D team effectiveness.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to enhance team performance and productivity.
**Risk Management**
- Proactively identify potential risks related to R&D projects and technological investments.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
**Intellectual Property (IP) Management**
- Oversee the protection and management of the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
- Collaborate with legal and technical teams to ensure appropriate IP filings and defense.
**Regulatory Compliance**
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with relevant industry regulations, standards, and ethical practices.
**Qualifications**
- Master’s or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- With at least 10 years of extensive experience in R&D management and a proven track record of leading successful product development.
- Strong foundation in mechanical and/or petroleum engineering principles.
- Proficient in Project Management and Cross-functional Team Leadership
- Knowledgeable in Software Development processes
- Strong strategic planning and project execution skills
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities
- Experience in clean technology or sustainability-focused industries is a plus
Pay: $75,266.15-$200,000.00 per year
Schedule:
