Lumacare has an opening for an 8‐week summer student contract position for an Activity Worker and we invite compassionate, energetic, and reliable undergraduates working towards achieving a degree or diploma in Activation/Therapeutic Recreation/ Social Service Worker/Gerontology/Sociology to a rewarding experience that will help build your future.

As an Activity Worker, under the mentorship of the Team Lead, Adult Day Program, you will assist Program staff with their clients who are seniors, including those who may have a physical disability, are recovering from a debilitating illness, or who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or a related cognitive impairment. Some responsibilities will include, assisting with meal service, transportation, group exercises and escorting clients safely.

You will report directly to the Team Lead, Adult Day Program.

**To Qualify for This Position, You Must**:

- Be pursuing a degree or Diploma related to Recreation, Activation, Sociology, Gerontology, or other related fields. (Recent graduates as also eligible to apply).
- Have an interest in recreational programming.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Possess creativity, empathy, enthusiasm, and compassion.
- Have the ability to work well in a team.
- Be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening/Police Reference Check.

**Here’s What You Will Get to do**:

- Assist the Program Leads in the research development, planning and organization of recreational, social fitness and motivational activities fit for clients with dementia and Alzheimer’s, addiction and mental health, stroke, and neurological challenges, in coordination with other program staff.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and tidy work area as well as perform some administrative duties, (computer, taking calls, and giving general information)
- Assist with the recreational programs that meet the individual needs of Adult Day program clients.
- Assist with transportation, meal service and wellness service, as required.
- Provide effective and safe escorting for client transportation.
- Assist with group exercise programs.
- Lead your own recreational program/activity, with support and supervision.
- Provide companionship services to Clients; provide emotional support to promote well‐being.
- Adhere to the Lumacare Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.

**To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs program, you must**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Be a canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act for the duration of the employment and,
- Have a valid social insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

SALARY: $15.50 per hour. Unfortunately, funding does not allow us exceed this amount. We however promise to compensate you with a rich and rewarding experience that will help to build your future.
