**About the Job**

As our Payroll & Benefits Supervisor you will be an enthusiastic leader with strong customer service and communication skills who will be directly responsible for supporting the Y’s people strategy through your accountability and oversight of the Y’s full-cycle processing of bi-weekly payroll for approximately 1200 full and part time employees.

This position will appeal to a Payroll and Benefits professional with proven leadership and strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

**What you’ll do**
- Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards & HR Technology, you will lead a team consisting of two Payroll & Benefit Administrators to ensure accurate and efficient payroll & benefit processing.
- Oversee the full cycle payroll processing of bi-weekly payroll for approximately 1200 salaried and hourly employees within a time-sensitive timeline.
- Manages all year-end activities including T4, WCB & T2200.
- Responsible for system development efforts including identification needed enhancements, testing, communication of those enhancements.
- Continually reviews practices and procedures for better operational efficiency.
- Provides strategic input to leadership team for joint projects and processes.
- Acts as the company’s expert on complex issues related to payroll, benefits, pension, HRIS system, and disability management.
- Ability to challenge traditional policies and procedures to introduce innovative changes for greater account.
- Coordinate audit support activities for payroll, benefit, pension, and workers compensation compliance.
- Collaborate with finance to ensure compliance with payroll accounting and proper general ledger entries.
- Responds to or supervises responses and inquiries in a timely manner and solves payroll discrepancies with a focus on providing positive customer service to all staff.
- Perform payroll reconciliations within the payroll cycle to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Performs account reconciliation and remittance for the Group Benefit plans, pension, WCB, etc.
- Ensures report and data requested by various teams and departments are provided on time.
- Proactively establishes and implements policies and procedures ensuring departmental needs are met and payroll process best practices are followed.
- Stays current with all aspects of Canadian payroll legislation, privacy laws and benefit administration and applies continuous learning strategies.
- Complies with provincial and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Takes a lead or key role in payroll-related systems improvements, including implementation of new software(s).

**What we’re looking for**
- Minimum of five years of hands-on payroll experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Certified Payroll Designation or equivalent.
- A self-starter that has a passion for HRIS technology and continuous improvement.
- Experience working with UKG is a preference.
- Working knowledge and proficiency within HRIS platforms (Payroll, Scheduling, Time & Attendance) is required.
- Prior experience with API connections or secure file imports.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel Knowledge.
- Ability to work both independently to provide solutions and as part of a team to accomplish tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
