As a member of the Department’s leadership team, manages the Department’s delivery of reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI) projects and initiatives. Manages a team responsible for implementing the Department’s equity projects and initiatives and reports on activities and outcomes that contribute to the Department’s equity commitments and strategic plans.
- Based on frameworks and operational plans, takes a lead role in the development and implementation of a sustained process to identify, disrupt, and eliminate systemic barriers and inequities, and advance decolonization, anti-oppression, anti-hate, anti-racism, and truth and reconciliation calls to action, by working alongside communities, organizations, and sectors.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervises a training specialist. Provides leadership and supports staff in equity-funded positions reporting to other managers.
- As a member of the Department’s leadership team, provides leadership, develops strategies and plans, and makes recommendations to improve equitable outcomes and experiences for staff and clients.
- Manages implementation of a departmental equity initiative, including monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on projects, initiatives, and program work. Designs and implements regular tracking and assessment of operational plans to monitor, evaluate, and take action to achieve measureable change and impact.
- Acts as the centralized point of contact for departmental staff as it relates to equity-funded projects. Consults at defined project stages, including on complex issues and to review communications and other materials with high public visibility and interest.
- Advises on staff engagement and ongoing training to shift policies, processes, and practices to better reflect and respond to communities served. Reviews knowledge and practice gaps in staff and leadership. Develops tools to improve service delivery, as required. Develops and recommends policies and procedures designed to eliminate barriers and bias.
- Advises on and leads an internal examination of policies and practices: diversifying the Department and all aspects of service delivery, and amendments to be more inclusive; informing practices (e.g., identity-based data collection, appeals processes); liaising with corporate partners to ensure services are reflective of the community; educating and training all staff about the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion practices; and monitoring and supporting staff to adopt behaviours that ensure equity.
- Works collaboratively with program areas across the Department to promote integration between corporate strategy, departmental strategy, and program initiatives, including community engagement, training, and communications.
- Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative, trust-based relationships with community leaders, groups, and organizations serving Indigenous, African, Caribbean, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, and other diverse communities to continue building opportunities to engage and partner.
- Works on accountability mechanisms to ensure trends adversely impacting various communities are addressed through collaborative processes that build trust. Invites insight from external stakeholders and partners into issues, and supports developing shared, grassroots, community-informed solutions. Ensures all stakeholders are brought along, involved, and engaged in processes to support departmental plans.
- Works with the Department’s Data Analyst and Public Health Epidemiologists to advance identity-based data collection tools, and works to collect disaggregated data through various databases (SAMS, CAMS, OCCMS, HIFIS, IHS) to improve programs and services to be inclusive of the community.
