_St. Patrick's Home of Ottawa is a long-term 24 hour care facility that provides supportive assisted living & respite care to our community of nearly 300 residents as diverse as the Ottawa community itself. The Maintenance II performs general security and maintenance duties to the required standard in the building, grounds and other areas as assigned. They are also mindful of all applicable legislation e.g. Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Responds to fire alarms, door alarms and all codes; assists nursing as required.
- Operates boilers, pumps, air moving equipment, compressors, refrigeration equipment.
- Operates door lock and alarm systems.
- Makes rounds of the building during shift to monitor equipment and for fire and security.
- Ensures the building security procedures are followed as required.
- Maintains log and records as required.
- Keeps boiler room, equipment rooms and equipment clean and neat.
- Transports and moves heavy equipment, furniture and supplies as required.
- Performs cleaning duties as per cleaning schedule or as assigned by V.P., Building Operations.
- Removes refuse from floors to container daily; cleans waste cans, garbage room, receiving area and equipment as per cleaning schedule.
- Assists with grounds care, including care of flowers, shrubs, trees, watering and care of grass, cleaning of walks, care of outside furniture and washing of vehicles.
- Checks walks, exits, steps; removes ice and snow, sands, salts and de-ices as required for safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, Building Operations

**EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE**
- Two years or more performing similar duties.
- High School diploma
- General knowledge of Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical Systems, Air Conditioning, Boilers and related systems. Security Systems and Fire Systems.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must have the ability to carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping, climbing and stretching.
- Must have the ability to implement preventive maintenance and other systems as required.
- Must be able to understand and follow instructions contained in equipment manuals.
- Must have the ability to safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position.
- Must have the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- Must be able to speak and understand English; must be able to understand written and oral instructions.
