**12 Month Contract Opportunity**
The Segregated Funds' Financial Management (SFFM) team within Group Retirement Services Finance is responsible for the daily valuations, trading in underlying mutual funds, accounting control, and financial reporting for over 500 segregated funds. The Intermediate Financial Analyst - Contract role is a key member of the Accounting and Controls team within SFFM. This team of three individuals is accountable for the key controls on the valuation of the funds, reconciliations, reporting to Canadian Finance and Corporate, financial statements and notes for over 200 of the Funds, the coordination of various audits and the compilation of taxable income for the Funds to support plan member tax reporting.
**This role will be based in Waterloo.**
**What will you do?**
- Assist in the preparation and review of T3 Memos and assist with the T3018 Process
- Assist in preparation for various year-end functions, including preparing financial statement notes, updating documentation, refreshing various spreadsheets, etc.
- Prepare financial statements for a variety of different funds and fund types
- Work with internal and external auditors to support the audit work
- Coordinate supporting back-up and documentation to audit inquiries and provide meaningful explanation to audit inquiries
- Participate in the production of the Segregated Funds Annual Report
- Identify, analyze and report on deficiencies in the control environment and implement new controls or processes to improve efficiency
- Prepare and evaluate the rate of return analysis for segregated funds
- Complete various quarterly access reviews, including submitting requests for access removals/additions for the Accounting and Controls Team
- Complete Business Records Inventory Review for the Accounting and Controls Team
- Complete Offsite Destruction Eligibility Review for the Accounting and Controls Team
- Assist the GRS Expense Team in their annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Complete the quarterly balance sheet review for the Reporting and Analysis Team
- Assist the GRS Tax Team in the T3 Trust Returns process.
- Assist in the Fraser Study process by collecting data from different areas and consolidating it into the template
**What do you need to succeed?**
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style for technical and non-technical audiences
- Proactive and self-directed with excellent organizing, planning and time management skills and able to progress on multiple assignments at once
- Able to effectively operate at both a holistic high level, as well as deep in the details
- An enthusiastic team player who enjoys sharing knowledge, experience and ideas, and is open to the ideas and input of others
- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking with attention to accuracy and details
- Possess an inherent passion for continuous improvement and innovation
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to align to changing priorities
- Comfortable with new technologies and the ability to self-learn software
**Assets**:
- Successfully completed or actively pursuing CPA designation
- Knowledge of PAM for Securities (PAM) software
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, and corresponding software
- Technical expertise with Microsoft Excel
- Previous experience working in Investments or Segregated Funds
- Completion of Canadian Securities Course (CSC)

- Ability to manage a flexible work schedule as some overtime may be required outside of regular business hours to support critical time lines and/or project implementations
