- Minimum six months experience in related position or proven writing and communication experience
**Responsibilities**:
**Grant, Manuscript, and Protocol Writing**
- Identify funding opportunities, including grants and awards from internal and external sources
- Assist with writing high-quality, compelling grant proposals in a timely manner, including performing literature reviews on the topic, identifying potential funding sources, discussions with study proponents to ensure a thorough understanding of the project, developing budgets, timelines, work plans, and other required documents, making presentations, and securing letters of support, as needed
- Submit reports to granting organizations following the completion of projects and provide recognition for granting organizations
- Assist investigators in writing research manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals, ensuring the journal requirements are fulfilled and follow-up reviewer and editorial queries are answered
- Assist investigators in preparing and submitting abstracts and presentations for meetings/conferences at the local/provincial/national/international level.
- Identify and communicate grants and funding opportunities or partnerships to internal investigators
**Academic Development**
- Work with internal and external partners to develop documentation and policies that support the implementation of graduate school and postdoctoral programs at RVH
- Develop cross-departmental policies and processes to enable RVH to accept and deliver tri-council funding (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC)
- Maintain and develop research seminars, workshops, journal clubs, and conferences to keep internal and external partners abreast of the latest trends in research and development
- Build and oversee scholarship programs that support student engagement in research
- Support the growth and development of adjunct scientist and research chair programs, including recruitment and onboarding of internal and external researchers wishing to conduct research at RVH
- Occasionally lead students in research projects and tasks
**Innovation Mobilization and Partnerships**
- Build and maintain robust relationships with academic and industry partners to promote current and future collaborations, while ensuring alignment with institutional goals
- Work with business incubators, accelerators, catalysts, and startups to support the development of healthcare and life science streams within a regional innovation centre and/or ecosystem
- Identify, source, develop, and promote new research, administrative, and clinical technologies and methodologies
- Foster and embed interdisciplinary research within RVH to ensure the long-term sustainability of collaborations through new innovation and funding
**Research Operations**
- Assisting with the development of improved internal research-related processes that support the growth of RVH’s research enterprise
- Participate in the formulation and implementation of research-related operating strategies and policies, protocols, systems, and procedures
- Provide expert input into study protocol design and development, including sound statistical methodologies, sample size estimation, statistical analysis planning, data handling, statistical modeling, testing, analysis, and reporting
- Researching and executing federal and provincial government-specific policies and procedures
- Assist in conducting clinical research activities under the direction of the principal investigator and/or institution, including preparing and acquiring appropriate ethics and institutional approvals, recruiting and consenting research participants, data collection and management, and data analysis
- Perform all duties in compliance with established regulatory, legislative, and institutional requirements
- Proactively anticipate and understand concerns/issues/delays in projects and develop risk assessment and contingency plans
- Maintain a complete registry of all research being conducted at RVH
- Clean and prepare data for analysis, including writing code or queries (e.g. in STATA, SQL, SPSS), programming, scripting, and similar forms of automation
- Coordinate the collection and compilation of research data into effective visual and written reports for internal and external stakeholders
**Research Communication**
- Communicate local scientific findings, news, and events to educate and raise awareness of science-related topics in an accurate, accessible, and contextualized way
- Identify and write stories about local investigators and their research for dissemination to wider audiences
