Under the direct supervision of the PPE Repair and Maintenance Technician - Lead Hand, the PPE Repair and Maintenance Technicians monitor and track all department personnel issued turn-out gear to determine the need for repairs and cleaning. This includes inspection of all departmental turn-out gear and documentation of condition in the Departmental Tracking System. The PPE Repair and Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the repairs of turn-out gear as well as maintaining and updating the inventory system/program. Technicians are responsible for the pick-up and cleaning of soiled turnout gear and the distribution of clean gear to operations personnel.
The PPE Repair and Maintenance Technicians must be knowledgeable of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards for cleaning and maintaining gear, turn-out gear, repair equipment and têxtiles/fabrics used in the manufacturing of the gear itself. This position shall have the ability and willingness to attain as well as continually maintain certifications pertinent to this position. These Technicians will be responsible for specified repairs, in addition to possessing the ability to operate all machines and equipment deemed necessary for this position. They will also be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of all related machines and equipment in the branch.
**As the **_PPE Repair and Maintenance Technician_** **you will**:
- Ensure all turn-out gear is properly cleaned and inspected.
- Repair and maintain turn-out gear.
- Maintain an inventory of materials and Departmental tracking systems.
- Outfit Operations Personnel.
- Pick up soiled turnout gear and distribute clean turnout gear to operations.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Certification in specialized training and/or certification regarding repair of turn-out gear as well as other related gear is an asset. A combination of related education, training and experience will be considered.
- Minimum one (1) years’ experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint at an intermediate level.
- Minimum one (1) years’ experience maintaining and organizing and tracking accurate file/record management systems.
- Minimum two (2) years’ customer service experience.
- Six (6) months’ experience working with and using industrial sewing machines is an asset.
- Experience working with and repairing têxtiles/clothing is an asset.
- Experience working with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards.
- Knowledge of locations of WFPS Stations is an asset.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions.
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a deadline driven environment with time constraints.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills including the preparation of draft correspondence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and other agencies and professionals (i.e. Police, Firefighters, Paramedics and other health care professionals) in a collaborative, team environment.
- Ability to operate industrial power equipment, such as scissor lifts and heavy-duty washers is an asset.
**Conditions of employment**:
- The successful applicant must possess and maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Must be able to do physically intensive work in a warehouse setting; lifting around 25 lbs., climbing ladders, etc.
- This position operates in a 24/7/365 days a year environment and is required to work overnight shifts.
- Willingness and ability to successfully complete and maintain additional training and/or certificates relevant to this position’s duties within specified timeframes, if requested by WFPS management.
