**FT Foreshore Worker - Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC)**

RVYC is seeking an energetic individual as a Foreshore worker at Royal Victoria Yacht Club’s main location in Cadboro Bay, Victoria, BC.

**PREAMBLE**

The Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC) is a healthy and lively organization with over 800 members. Founded in 1892, RVYC is the oldest yacht club in British Columbia. Over the past one hundred and twenty years, RVYC has made significant contributions to the sailing, seafaring, and cruising communities of the Pacific Northwest. RVYC encourages its members to be active in many activities that are supported by the Club. The objectives of RVYC are to encourage yachting; boating, navigation, and seamanship; to promote sportsmanship and excellence in competitive sailing; to provide facilities for the use and benefit of members and to preserve yachting traditions.

**SUMMARY**

Reporting to the Foreshore Lead Hand, the Foreshore worker is responsible for the effective and proper maintenance of all marina and shore facilities through the establishment. Hours of operation are 6:30am - 9:00pm, 7 days a week. shift hours rotate, include weekends, and are a split between 2 marina locations.

**POSITION DUTIES**

Foreshore Crew report to the Foreshore Supervisor and General Manager. Please see the detailed description below.

**Provides cleaning and maintenance services for RVYC Clubhouse on a daily and/or as required basis by**:

- Supplement late day cleaning as required, (Cadboro Bay & Tsehum Haven to provide full janitorial service for all facilities, as well as occasionally providing these services to our Long Harbour outstation)
- Removing garbage and recycling material.
- Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance to Clubhouse furnishing fixtures, lights, life safety equipment and equipment
- Providing and/or relocating material/equipment for special Club functions, moving carpets, arranging appropriate seating and other day porter duties
- Stocking adequate quantities of janitorial and maintenance supplies

**Carries out maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of RVYC docks and finger berths by**:

- Checking docks and repairing loose deck boards, loose cleats, and other safety hazards on the docks and fingers
- Checking moorage of members boats for unsafe arrangements and correct any problems and advising the members
- Checking and repairing electrical circuits, wiring, and lights
- Rebuilding and making minor and major repairs
- Clearing garbage, debris and recyclables from the dock areas
- Recycling of used/old fuel and oil products
- Ensure all supplies are stocked, i.e. fuel, tools, and maintenance equipment

**Operates and carries out basic maintenance of RVYC marine ways and crane hoist by**:

- Hauling out and launching Club and member boats using marine ways or crane hoist and assisting members as necessary
- Providing guidance in the safe operation of the crane hoist to members who are authorized to use it
- Allocating marine ways and crane hoist times for Club and member boats
- Confirming ways and hoist times by completing appropriate forms
- Greasing and oiling marine ways cradle and cable as required. Note any signs of cable fraying, wear and tear and arranging repairs or change of cable as necessary
- Preparing crane hoist for hoisting and launching Club and members’ boats using appropriate slings. Preparing marine ways cradle for hauling out and launching of Club and members’ boats with bow support and arm settings as appropriate
- Checking the crane hoist slings for any signs of deterioration and replacing slings as necessary
- Regular Maintenance of the environmental water treatment system

**Carries out maintenance work on RVYC boats and race equipment by**:

- Ensuring that all Club vessels are maintained to high standards, are seaworthy, and meet all regulations at all times
- Making minor repairs to Club boats
- Maintaining race course marks, towing hawsers, anchor lines, course boards, letters, numbers, and signal flags
- Ensuring radios and other equipment used by Race Committees are serviceable and available for appropriate use
- Cleaning boats and securing covers after use by Race Committees as required
- Servicing engines and fuelling vessels as required
- Supporting the Sailing Coordinator in the maintenance of Club owned sailboats, coach boats, instructional equipment, and boat trailers

**Maintains records and billing data by**:

- Keeping records required for haul out and hoisting of members’ boats including draft, and marine cradle settings
- Keeping records of storage and locker allocations and ensure storage compliance of Laser, Laser II, Mini 12’s and other dinghies
- Keeping records of moorage allocations
- Keeping electrical reading records
- Providing billing information to the Foreshore Supervisor for foreshore operations (e.g. ice sales, hoist and ways use, power washing, and other special charges)
