Reporting to the Supervisor of Water/Wastewater Operations, the Water/Wastewater Operator is primarily responsible for the operations, monitoring and maintenance of the Town’s potable drinking water systems, small drinking water systems and wastewater collection systems to ensure the safe delivery of potable drinking water and reliable wastewater services to East Gwillimbury, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
This position performs a wide variety of maintenance and operational activities on water and wastewater systems including, but not be limited to, water sampling, infrastructure inspections, water meter installation, reading and repair, maintenance and repair of water and sewer infrastructure, sanitary pump station maintenance and the collection and recording of operational data. This position investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, contractors, and utilities in a prompt and professional manner. In addition, the position operates and maintains tools and equipment including pumps, pipe locators, gas detectors, confined space, CCTV equipment, and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loader, hurco “valve and vac”, trench boxes, etc.
- Three years related work experience and knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems operation, components, and maintenance.
- Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Technology Diploma.
- Eligibility for the Certified Engineering Technician (C.Tech or CET) designation from the Ontario Association of Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is an asset.
- DZ driver’s licence with the ability to operate heavy equipment is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively, professionally and courteously work with all levels of staff, external contacts and the general public;
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Working knowledge of the following legislative regulations: Safe Drinking Water Act (2002) and its Regulations, the Ontario Water Resources Act and its Regulations, the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Management Standards (DWQMS), O.Reg 169/03 Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards, O.Reg 170/03 Drinking Water Systems, O.Reg 128/04 Certification of Drinking Water System Operators and Water Quality Analysis, O Reg 129/04 Licensing of Sewage Works Operators, and O.Reg 225/14, Water Taking.
- Ability to work on rotation on-call, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
**Rate of Pay**: $74,715 - $87,888 (Band 5)
