SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director of Support Services, the Recreation Worker plans, facilitates, and evaluates Recreation Programs to meet the social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs of designated individuals and groups of Residents in accordance with Manitoba Health Standards. Functions as part of the interdisciplinary team. The Recreation Worker works within the framework of Golden Links Lodge's Mission, Vision & Values and in accordance with its policies and procedures. Supervises and evaluates Volunteers and Students assigned to the program as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
**Education**:
Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Certificate or equivalent diploma/degree.
Training in Non-Crisis Intervention, First Aid / CPR and Food Handler's Certificate an asset.
Computer literacy.
The ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak fluent English.
**Experience**:
One year's previous experience working with the elderly.
Experience in personal care home setting preferred.
Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate Recreation Programs.
**Knowledge**:
Understanding of the aging process
Awareness of community resources.
Understanding of group processes.
Understanding of cognitive impairment.
Understanding music therapy.
Understanding of physical limitations and strengths as impacted by chronic illness.
**Personal**:
Physical and mental health to meet the requirements of the position.
Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in English.
Knowledge of the needs of the elderly and an ability to relate to them with warmth and empathy.
Ability to work with mínimal supervision and in harmony within a team environment.
Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and creativity.
Ability to adapt to changing needs of Residents.

Position Responsibilities and Duties
Under the direction of or in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, the Recreation Worker plans, facilitates, and evaluates Recreation Programs to meet the social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs of designated individuals and groups of Residents in accordance with Manitoba Health Standards.
1. Assessment
Conducts individualized recreation assessments on Residents, according to GLL.
guidelines.
2. Intervention Plan
Develop individualized recreation care plans as part of the overall resident care plan.
Includes resident, and encourages family involvement, in the development and implementation of the individual's recreation plan.
Follows process for Resident admission.
Participates in resident care conferences as appropriate.
3. Program Development
Research, plans and develops recreation programs and special events, incorporating the needs and preferences of Residents.
Participates in team meetings and planning sessions.
Participates in the selection of recreation supplies and equipment, being conscious of the budgetary constraints.
4. Program Delivery
Conducts individual, small, and large group recreation programs. Supports individual leisure lifestyles as appropriate to meet identified Resident needs.
Prepares calendar and promotes events within the facility keeping mindful of seasonal changes and holidays.
Participates in the supervision and direction of volunteers in providing recreation services to Residents.
Supports the economical use, safe storage and maintenance of recreational supplies and equipment.
5. Documentation/Communication
Documents in IPN according to facility charting guidelines.
Communicates recreation programs and goals with residents, families, and team members in a designated facility format.
Records of resident specific documentation including recreation assessment, resident participation records, progress notes and care conference reports.
Reports any unusual incidents or concerns regarding resident care to the appropriate person.
Records service specific documentation such as program outlines.
