**Position Overview**:
Under the guidance of the Program Coordinator for each program, the support worker provides support for clients attending RCC therapeutic recreation programs. This may be on a 1:1 basis, or up to a 1:4 basis. This support takes the form of assisting clients in taking part in all camp activities, as well as on a case-by-case basis providing personal care. The goal is to ensure that each participant has the best possible experience in the program and participates to their maximal potential. Programs are run in a family centred, culturally safe manner and follow a neuro-behavioural framework**.**
**LIFE Program Sun & Fun Camp for youth ages 12-21 with disabilities.**
- The LIFE program runs 7 weeks of summer Sun and Fun Camp
**SOS Camp for children ages 5-12 with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).**
- SOS Camp runs 2 Saturdays per month (Sept - June)
- SOS summer camp (4 days in July)
**Responsibilities**:
- Assist in set-up and clean-up for programs.
- Ensure that the environment and equipment are conducive to a safe and positive experience.
- Provide personal care assistance, including but not limited to feeding, dressing, and toileting.
- Offer behavioural support as per established behavioural support plans.
- Mobility assistance, including the use of mechanical lifts, transfer belts, transfer slings, and the use of mobility equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs.
- Participate in all activities and facilitate participation on the part of clients.
- Communicate with the Program Coordinator as needed.
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, provide feedback to parents, caregivers and/or legal guardians (written or verbal).
- Function as a member of the recreation program team.
**Education, Licenses, Registration & Experience**:
- Completion of Grade 11 High School (required).
- University student in a health care field, education, or recreation therapy (preferred).
- Volunteer or paid experience working in similar field (preferred).
- Training in CPR, First Aid, WEVAS, NVCI, Low Arousal (preferred).
**Physical Demands/Working Conditions**:
- Must be in good physical and mental health and able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting. This may include playing sports and participating in other active activities.
- Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
- Must be able to safely transfer clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
- May be required to work in the evening or weekends in addition to daytime hours during summer months.
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients.
- Must be able to attend orientation/meetings.

**SOS program** (Sept - June): 9am-3pm
**SOS Summer camp** (4 days in July): 8:45 am -3:45pm

**Salary**: $18.30 per hour.
**Conditions of hire**:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to present a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (Including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
