The Commercial Sewing operator is an integral position responsible for handling the sewing responsibilities for the sewing department at UNCI. In ths position, you will be expected to perform cutting and sewing for commercial and residential sewing. Due to the custom products manufactured at unique contract interiors attention to detail and problem solving skills are necessary. The Commercial Sewing Operator will be responsible for maintaining a great attitude, keeping a high quality of work, and completing projects on time as directed. The successful applicant will need to be well organized and keep on schedule for this department to be successful.
Key Responsibilities
1. Be in close communication with other shop employees to ensure products are being completed to our standards.
2. Measure, Cut and sew different têxtiles to fit our products. Items include but are not limited to: booth seats, borders and backs, wall panels, custom residential pieces, chair seats and chair backs,
3. Working with a variety of commercial grade têxtiles such as fabric, vinyl and leather.
4. Understand how to best utilize the materials assigned to the project.
5. be able to create and understand sewing patterns.
6. Understand different booth designs, such as: Diamond tufting, vertical pleats and head rolls.
7. have a clear understanding of schedules set out by management and carry out the work in the time allotted while maintaining the required quality standards.
8. Be able to communicate with those in your department and in others.
9. Operate and understand tools of the trade (Industrial sewing machines, cutting table, cutting tools, measurement tools, etc).
10. Potentially learn aspects of the upholstery trade to assist with custom projects that require sewing and upholstery.
11. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
12. Other general duties may be assigned as required.

To meet occupational health and safety regulations employees will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment while on site which may include:
Protective eyewear
Protective hearing wear
Properly fitted clothing
Steel toe boots
Qualifications required:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in commercial sewing or extensive experience as a sewing operator
- knowledge in the use of related tools (listed above)
- experience with sewing products for booth seating, residential seating or other soft seating
- strong understanding of commercial and residential style projects
- ability to follow schedules and timelines
- ability to communicate effectively with management and other staff
- ability to read, write and communicate efficiently in the English language
- ability to read and understand drawings and designs
- reliable and willing to take responsibility to complete the tasks assigned
- self motivated and willing to take initiative
- strong attention to detail
