**Job Summary**
The Occupational First Aid Level II (OFA II) Attendant is responsible for providing immediate and effective first aid to workers at a construction site. This role involves managing workplace injuries, assessing the situation to determine the appropriate care, and ensuring worker safety in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations. The OFA II works closely with site supervisors and safety officers to create a safe work environment by identifying hazards, preparing for emergencies, and responding to medical situations.
**Duties**
- Administer first aid treatment to injured or ill workers, as outlined by WorkSafeBC’s OFA II standards.
- Perform initial assessments to determine the severity of injuries or conditions and provide the necessary treatment.
- Stabilize patients and prepare them for transfer to higher-level medical care if required.
- Quickly and calmly respond to medical emergencies at the construction site, ensuring worker safety.
- Act as the main contact in medical emergencies until further medical assistance arrives.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all injuries, treatments, and incidents according to WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Submit reports on workplace injuries to site supervisors, safety officers, and management.
- Identify and report potential hazards on the construction site that could cause injuries or accidents.
- Collaborate with site supervisors to ensure health and safety protocols are being followed.
- Regularly inspect, inventory, and restock first aid kits and medical supplies to ensure readiness.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the first aid station and equipment.
- Educate workers on basic first aid practices and encourage adherence to safety procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions as required by the site’s safety plan.
**Requirements**:
- Valid **OFA Level II** certification from an approved WorkSafeBC provider.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety regulations and standards, especially WorkSafeBC guidelines.
- Previous experience as an OFA attendant, ideally on a construction or industrial site.
- Familiarity with the construction industry’s health and safety practices is an asset.
- Strong assessment and decision-making skills, especially in emergency situations.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and provide clear, accurate instructions.
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with workers and supervisors.
- Physical fitness to respond to incidents across the construction site, including lifting or supporting injured workers if necessary.
- Knowledge of basic first aid equipment maintenance and inventory management.
- Willingness to adhere to all safety and health regulations on a construction site.
- Ability to work flexible hours as construction schedules may vary.
Pay: $20.00-$45.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Licence/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (required)
