Student Parent Support Worker

**The Position**
The position of Pathways to Education Student Support Worker is under the supervision of and reporting directly to the Pathways to Education Program Coordinator, and is a member of the STC Pathways to Education team. The Pathways Student Parent Worker is responsible for building relationships with students and families in the STC Pathways to Education after-school program. You will work closely with the Pathways to Education team to ensure the identification of challenges facing students and that parents/guardians are registered with the Pathway’s program. You will provide ongoing communication, advocacy, and programming among students, parents/guardians’ understanding of the secondary school system, and their capacities to successfully engage secondary school teachers and administrators to support the achievement of the youth in the program.
**Responsibilities**
- Monitoring each student’s progress.
- Provide advocacy and counseling support as needed.
- Offer referrals to other support agencies.
- Managing the financial incentives of the program for students.
- Student and Family Support develop supportive relationships with students and maintain regular contact with parents
- School Support develops and maintains effective working relationships with school staff.
- Program Support work collaboratively with the Pathways school site team to deliver the after-school program and provide support for special events and programs.
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis.
**Education and Experience**
- Degree in education, health administration, social work, or equivalent;
- Three years of experience in youth programming, education, or social work; either singularly or in combination;
- Practices/understands Indigenous Cultural protocols of diverse nations;
- Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, and history is considered an asset.
**Knowledge Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of community development, social services, and resources;
- Knowledge of secondary school policies and programs, particularly in the Saskatoon Public Schools and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools divisions;
- Knowledge of adolescent development and youth development strategies and programming;
- Knowledge of community and social issues from a systemic perspective;
- Ability to facilitate groups;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Analytical, decision-making, and the ability to recognize challenges, identify causes, and provide solutions.
- Dependability: able to work independently, submit accurate documentation, and seek guidance when needed
- Receptive: accept feedback, take ownership of responsibilities, and identifies areas of growth
- Interpersonal Skills: communicates clearly, seeks solutions, and demonstrates flexibility
- Integrity: keep sensitive information confidential and adheres to STC’s policies
- Initiative: seeks opportunities for further development
**Other Conditions**
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
- Must possess a valid class 5 Driver’s license.
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CCRC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
