The National Judicial Institute (NJI) is an independent, bilingual, not‐for‐profit organization, based in Ottawa and Montreal, with a mandate to coordinate and deliver educational programming to members of the judiciary across Canada.

Since its inception in 1988, the NJI has continued to develop and deliver stimulating programs and a variety of digital resources that foster judicial excellence. These resources include Judicial Education Guides, Electronic Bench Books, educational modules to assist in program design, and an online judicial library. As part of its curriculum, the NJI offers over 70 judicial education programs each year. Alone or in partnership with courts and other organizations, the NJI is involved in the delivery of the majority of education taken by judges in Canada.

The NJI is looking to fill the permanent position of Finance Officer based in Ottawa.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Finance Officer is responsible for the performance of general accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Institute’s policies.
They are responsible for fiscal management and providing budgetary and financial reporting support. As a member of the Finance department, they assist in other areas of general accounting and financial reporting, when required.

Financial and Analysis Support
1. Assist the Director, Finance with annual budgets and audit file;
2. Analyze various General Ledger accounts, as required;
3. Maintain administrative and financial files relevant to the finance department; and
4. Work on special projects and ad hoc reporting, as required.

Accounts Receivable
1. Review and code all course-related invoices, including hotel, audio visual and simultaneous interpretation ensuring they are accurate, and that appropriate supporting documentation is included for audit purposes;
2. Prepare course invoices for the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs and other agencies of federal, provincial, and territorial governments, ensuring all direct and indirect course costs have been accounted for;
3. Meet with Program team members post-program to discuss specific billing instructions and other financial matters relating to programs;
4. Reconcile registration fee and dinner payment information and prepare invoices, as required;
5. Send payment links, as required;
6. Make deposits to Institute's bank account on a timely basis; and
7. Assist Director, Finance with resolution budget process including attending meetings with program team.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
1. Degree or diploma in a relevant field; OR a combination of experience, training and education;
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or business administration or financial reporting;
3. Experience in data entries in a financial software;
4. Fluent in English (R/W/O); and
5. Proficiency with Office 365.

Desirable
1. Fluently bilingual in French and English (R/W/O);
2. Advanced level of proficiency using Sage 300c (AccPac);
3. Proficiency in SharePoint; and
4. Proficiency in Project Management Software, such as Asana.
