Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The SHE Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development, administration, and implementation of companywide occupational safety programs and serves as the coordinator for the occupational safety programs within Eastern Canada. The SHE Coordinator plans, designs, develops, implements, and evaluates departmental occupational safety programs, supports recovery of onsite incidents, and conducts investigation and accident reviews.
Objectives & Measurement
Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensure Weir Group’s SHE Charter is fully respected via full implementation of internal protocols and procedures across sites.
- Support the local management teams and support with the development of focused stand down materials to support a combined and cohesive delivery of the SHE message.
- Support and deliver upon the delivery of cascaded information from SHE management.
- Support the facility to ensuring compliance with customer, corporate, governmental, and third-party safety & environmental standards, e.g. ISO Standards/COR as appropriate.
- Compiles accurate reports that supports regional and divisional communication.
- Support SHE training (including behavioral) to employees in partnership with local sites.
- Support incident management & investigation using the Weir SHIELD system.
- Advise employees and management on minimizing and eliminating workplace/Safety Health & Environmental risks. Ensure policies and procedures are established, prepared, implemented, revised, and maintained to meet current and known future requirements.
- Ability to communicate in both French and English.
- Maintain timely and effective communication with sites, in order to provide positive feedback to motivate good, safe performance, ensure that all employees have current and accurate information required for safe job performance, and have access to training and development opportunities.
- Plan and conduct/direct facility audits of facilities within region and recommend actions for the correction of hazardous situations. Conduct/direct operational audits of required SHE related documentation to ensure compliance. Prepare/ensure audit result reports and follow up on remediation required.
- Promote positive behavior across organization through Weir Zero Harm principles and safe work practices. Champion proactive programs to drive leading indicators and incident prevention based on the Hierarchy of Control.
- Support the coordination of Group & Divisional SHE initiatives across region to analyze and mitigate risk and communicate with facilities on improvement efforts.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited university focused on Occupational Health and Safety or Technical Degree or diploma (engineering/science) with specialization in Health, Safety Environment & Quality (HSE&Q)
- 3+ years of experience in managing a corporate Health & Safety function, preferably in manufacturing/service settings.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization providing support and representing leadership.
- Experience working with confidential information in accordance with privacy legislation and/or strong knowledge of privacy best practice
- Exposure to mining, oil and gas or related industries would be an asset
Physical Demands:
- Sit, talk, hear, and/or use hands to handle and touch objects
- Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and peripheral vision, and depth perception
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
