As an Auntie/Uncle (Indigenous Cultural Support Provider), you will provide direct indigenous cultural support to our participants and staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities of the Auntie/Uncle include but are not limited to:
- Following the guidance of the Knowledge Keeper, take an active role in cultural practices to support the program and participants.
- At the request of the Knowledge Keeper, host, support and/or participate in Indigenous ceremonies and events hosted by The Link and out in the community.
- At the request of the Knowledge Keeper facilitate wellness sharing circles, traditional drumming circles, smudge ceremonies, medicine picking and harvesting medicines.
- Share/provide culturally appropriate coaching/guidance and feedback with participants and their care providers
- Assist and support participants, both individually and in group settings
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with a traditional way of life; knowledgeable with the 7 Sacred Teachings, participating and/or attending ceremony, knowledgeable of Sundance Ceremony, being a helper, experience with sharing circles, drumming circles, and cultural activities.
- Able to sing indigenous songs and facilitate wellness circles and traditional drum circles.
- Optimally, three years’ experience in a related role and supporting individuals living in residential facilities
- The ability to attend work regularly as scheduled and flexibility to attend evening and weekend ceremonies.
- An understanding or previous experience with Harm Reduction techniques
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in English required. Ability to converse fluently in an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
- Ability to build strong, positive and professional relationships with others.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous historical trauma and intergenerational impacts.
- Knowledge of the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Report, Calls to Justice for the MMIW&G including 2SLGBTQQIA People and United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People.
- Ability to present a Satisfactory Child and Adult Abuse Registry check, satisfactory
- Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector search) and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and Driver’s License.
- Hold a valid First Aid CPR Certificate
- A safe and reliable vehicle with proof of appropriate insurance on vehicle (at least $2 Million, Third Party Liability)

SALARY: $22.00 to $23.50 per hour based upon qualifications
HOURS OF WORK: Full-Time, 35 hours per week including Days, Evenings and Weekends.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: One (1) Full time Permanent position
