**The Opportunity**:
First Work is looking for an individual to take on the role of Manager of Finance. This role reports to the Executive Director. The primary responsibility is to ensure organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization’s financial functions. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Manager of Finance will manage the organization’s finances, and help and create organizational and program budgets. The Manager of Finance will lead the Finance team and drive performance, while maintaining consistency in messaging and reinforcing the organization’s brand and reputation.

This role will also serve as a member of the Management Team and will contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices. This position will also interact with the Board of Directors.

The successful applicant will demonstrate sound judgment, be flexible and willing to learn and adapt to different work assignments in a team setting.

**Tasks and Responsibilities**

**1. Financial Management**
- Review accounts, financial statements, and coding to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure accurate forecasting and alignment with short
- and long-term financial goals.
- Lead the preparation, approval, and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Prepare and control budgets to assist the Management Team in effective budget holding.
- Monitor and analyze budget performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Manage cash flow to ensure operational efficiency.
- Oversee investments in accordance with organizational policies and risk tolerance.
- Control inventory.
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial systems and software.
- Ensure accurate data management and reporting through technology tools.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management and stakeholders.
- Provide financial training and support to non-financial staff and stakeholders.

**2. Financial Reporting and Analysis**
- Produce monthly account summaries, including cash flow, for the management team to monitor ongoing projects.
- Prepare quarterly financial statements for presentation to the Finance Committee.
- Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Consolidate accounts, prepare year-end financial statements, and audit files.
- Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during annual audits.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax laws, and Ontario-specific regulations.
- Oversee tax filings and ensure timely compliance with all reporting requirements.
- Manage grant funding to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and budget allocations.
- Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions.
- Analyze financial performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and provide recommendations.
- Communicate financial information to management, board members, and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and present financial reports and analyses to support decision-making.

**3. Financial Strategy and Strategic Planning**
- Liaise with the Board and Executive Director to provide input on strategic planning and decision-making.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans to achieve organizational goals.
- Provide financial insights, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support strategic planning and business objectives.
- Develop and oversee long-term financial strategies to ensure organizational growth and sustainability.
- Recommend and implement strategies and controls to enhance the organization's financial well-being.
- Assess financial risks, including credit, market, and operational risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
