The Community Planning Team Leader plays a key leadership role in supporting SCFSS’s strategic direction of “Culture of Caring.” Reporting to the Community Manager, this position oversees research, policy, data analysis, and strategic planning to support Member Communities in developing localized prevention programs and services.
This role supervises a multidisciplinary team including a Community Planner, Researcher, Community Engagement Coordinator, Policy Analyst, and Data Analyst. The Team Leader fosters strong relationships with Member Communities, Elders, and partners, ensuring that planning activities are culturally informed and community-driven.
**OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Embed nłeʔkepmx and syilx traditional knowledge, language, and protocols into all planning activities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Member Communities, Elders, and partner organizations.
- Facilitate community engagement sessions to gather feedback and ensure planning aligns with community priorities.
- Ensure all practices are trauma-informed and culturally safe.
- Facilitate Elder involvement in program development, policy consultation, and cultural integration.
- Promote the integration of language, identity, and land-based teachings in team workplans and community programs.
- Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team: Community Planner, Researcher, Community Engagement Coordinator, Policy Analyst, and Data Analyst.
- Lead the implementation of the Community Planning program in alignment with SCFSS’s operational and strategic plans.
- Support staff development through training, coaching, and performance planning.
- Lead regular team meetings to provide direction, share updates, and resolve challenges.
- Foster a positive, safe, and healthy work environment aligned with SCFSS’s “Culture of Caring.”
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support Member Communities in developing localized prevention services.
- Develop strategic partnerships with service providers to support community-driven initiatives.
- Ensure planning practices reflect both traditional knowledge and legislative requirements.
- Participate in organization-wide meetings and initiatives, including All Staff Meetings.
- Maintain data systems for tracking engagement, referrals, and reporting.
- Conduct and support safety and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with OH&S standards.
- Uphold confidentiality and data security in accordance with FOIPPA and SCFSS policies.
- Manage the Community Planning team’s budget and ensure responsible use of funds.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to the Community Manager.
- Support the collection and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics to inform planning and evaluation.
- Represent SCFSS at community events and external meetings to foster collaboration and visibility.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Proven experience in the management and development of teams, with a leadership style that is collaborative, cultural, strategic, and innovative.
- Ability to conceptualize, analyze, investigate, and report on a wide variety of issues.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and policy development, with the ability to work collaboratively with the Management Team on fund development and policy implementation.
- Extensive experience working with local Indigenous communities and a comprehensive understanding of Indigenous cultural and traditional approaches, with the ability to prioritize these approaches over Western methodologies.
- Experience in community-based planning or engagement.
- Knowledge of nłeʔkepmx and/or syilx cultural frameworks and protocols.
- Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge systems into program or policy development.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under mínimal supervision.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and other IT platforms for word processing, databases, reports, online communications, and spreadsheets.
- Clear Criminal Record check and Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior Contact Check required before commencement of employment.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license without restrictions.
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Diploma in community engagement, project management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in program development and implementation.
- At least 1 year of experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge and practice of nłeʔkepmx and syilx traditional values and protocols is an asset.
**MINIMUM REQUIRED COMPETENCIES**
- **Indigenous Knowledge**: working knowledge or willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx and syilx culture and language; sensitivity to the historical and systemic impacts on Indigenous families and communities from intergenerational trauma due to colonialism, residential school history, the sixties scoop, and association with the child welfare system
