Advanced Machine Operator

Directly responsible to Fabrication Supervisor. Must communicate effectively with all team members. Functionally responsible for the production and quality of fabricated parts as per fabrication drawings. Must be able to operate all cutback saws, punch press, drilling, tapping, deburring, and miter/soco/FOM saw while ensuring that a safe working environment is maintained at all times. This will be done by following Company policies and procedures. We believe that every employee is responsible to act safely and to model good safety practices.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

The duties and responsibilities of the Advanced Machine Operator are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

- Responsible for safely and effectively operating all machines within the fabrication department: saws, punch press, drilling, tapping, deburring machines and any other additional equipment that may be purchased in the future
- Work closely and continuously while in constant communication with the supervisors to resolve any issues and discrepancies
- Effective communication with the supervisor and the team is essential in this role
- Follow Almag’s PROUD values and embody them in day-to-day activities
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintaining housekeeping for machine centre throughout the shift
- Follow 5S procedures and ensure things are kept where they belong on the line
- Adherence to work order instructions are critical such as the notes section for specific customer requirements
- Check the machine condition for any issues and/or mechanical problems prior to starting fabricating
- Follow work orders and produce parts according to specifications
- Do not over
- or under-run, and escalate any issues with the supervisor immediately
- Once an order is complete, ensure the correct tagging colors are used based on work order routing
- Be proactive and regularly communicate with forklift operators throughout the shift and ensure WIP is brought to the line in a timely and efficient manner
- Responsible for operating the cutback saws in both buildings and any profiles as required
- Ensure the saws are being run in a safe and efficient manner
- Responsible for ensuring run rates are adhered to as outlined by the work order - if run rates are not able to be met, immediately notify the supervisor
- Ensure blades are making effective cuts and pieces are adhering to standards
- When operating the punch press, ensure drawings are carefully followed and validate setups are correct
- Participate in shift handovers and communicate any issues, priorities, etc. so the following machine operator is setup for success
- Responsible for inputting data into EPICS throughout the run and upon completion of production
- Ensure downtime codes and hours inputted are present and accurate
- Required to check samples periodically according to what is outlined by the quality standards stated on the work order
- Ensure first piece sample is verified by another personnel to ensure it meets specifications
- Verify the material being provided matches with what the work order is asking for to ensure all instructions are being followed
- Ensure material is checked for proper cut length before fabrication by using calipers or measuring tape
- Responsible for reporting equipment malfunction to the supervisor or maintenance team directly
- Adhere to scheduled work orders and execute as required
- Perform other duties as required
- Support change for the better at Almag by co-operating with others and growing the business
- Responsible for adhering to Almag’s quality standards and ensuring at the source quality is executed and adhered to

**Requirements**:
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education/Experience**
- Grade 12 education is an asset
- 1-2 years of production and/or fabrication machining experience is required
- Experience working on cutback saws is an asset

**Technical Skills/Competence**
- Understanding of measurements, tolerances, basic geometry, and numeracy comprehension
- Willing to be trained
