**Internship objective**
Taking care of the environment has never been more important than it is today. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a Conservation Intern to join our team as we work to protect our most precious natural environments and the plant and animal species they support.
The person selected for the conservation internship will conduct thematic literature reviews, write synthesis papers and participate in strategic plans related to projects aimed at accelerating conservation in southern Quebec.
This internship is designed to provide a stimulating, learning environment. It will provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conservation on private land, as well as deepen knowledge of the habitats and rare species of the target region.
**Duties and responsibilities**
Office (100%)
- Conduct scientific literature reviews and bibliographic research.
- Gather information from various sources.
- Identify knowledge gaps to be addressed in the short and medium term.
- Write synthesis documents.
- Consult internal interactive maps.
- Contribute to the development of a strategic plan and standardized protocols.
- Classify information in a computer database.
**Quebec City office or Montreal office (36 weeks, 1 position available)**
Workplace: 870, av. de Salaberry, bureau 133, Québec OU 1055, boul. René-Lévesque Est, bureau 300, Montréal (hybrid mode)
Workplace language: French
**Internship features**:literature search and synthesis on various topics or issues related to conservation, connectivity and management of invasive exotic species. Compilation of protocols for the monitoring of species at risk. Internal coordination of the Carapace platform. Support for the stewardship team in filing documents, managing rental leases, posting volunteer activities online and inventorying field equipment. Working knowledge of Quebec landscapes, communities and conservation issues (asset).
**Skills required**
- Studies in a field related to biology, ecology, environmental sciences, forestry, geography, etc.
- Excellent level of oral and written French.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people (colleagues, partners, researchers, volunteers).
- Ability to work on different projects simultaneously.
- Autonomy and resourcefulness in finding solutions.
- Ability to organize and integrate information from a variety of disciplines.
- Skills in popularizing science.
- Reliability, self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of scientific article research tools.
- Knowledge of basic cartographic tools (GPS, online maps, data collection).
- Knowledge of standard software (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics).
- (Asset) Bilingualism, French and English.
**Other requirements**
- Must have a valid social insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial laws and regulations.
- (Asset) Some funders require interns to be between the ages of 18 and 30 for the duration of the internship, or to be registered as full-time students during the winter session.
**Conditions of employment**
- Workplace language: French
- Target start date: May 5, 2025
- Regular work schedule: 37.5 hrs/week, Monday to Friday
- Salary: starting at $20.00/hr
- A monthly lump sum of $25 will be paid for the use of the intern's personal computer and cell phone.
- Travel and stays away from home are to be expected for meetings. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.
