**Internship objective**

The person selected for the patrol and awareness internship will contribute to maintaining the ecological integrity of NCC-protected territories by carrying out off-trail inspections to observe the state of the territory and document intrusions, in addition to criss-crossing the trail network to meet users.

This internship is designed to provide a stimulating, learning environment. It will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conservation on private land, as well as to deepen knowledge of the habitats and rare species of the target region.

**Duties and responsibilities**

Field (90%)
- Patrol the trail network and off-trail access points.
- Monitor biodiversity targets and threats on the territory.
- Document management issues observed on the territory.
- Implement actions to remedy observed issues or limit prohibited uses.
- Intervene with users to inform them of the regulations in place.
- Make users aware of the importance of the territory and the fragility of certain ecosystems.
- Participate in the monitoring of terrestrial and aquatic invasive exotic species.

Office (10%)
- Plan field trip logistics.
- Consult internal interactive maps.
- Compile information gathered in the field into a database.
- Write property patrol reports.

**Réserve naturelle des Montagnes-Vertes (16 weeks, 1 position available)**

Internship features:

- This internship takes place mainly in the field. Office work takes place at the Sutton regional office (24B, rue Principale Sud, Sutton).
- Work schedule from Wednesday to Sunday.
- Possibility of continuing the internship on a part-time basis on fall weekends.
- Workplace language is French.

**Skills required**
- Studies in a field related to biology, ecology, environmental sciences, forestry, geography, outdoors, etc.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of people (colleagues, protected property users, partners, volunteers).
- Good physical condition for patrolling trails with varying elevation and terrain.
- Tolerance for work in varied weather conditions and involving biting insects.
- Conflict resolution and information dissemination skills.
- Adaptability, autonomy and resourcefulness in finding solutions.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of basic cartographic tools (GPS, online maps, data collection).
- Knowledge of standard software (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics).
- (Asset) Experience in the outdoors, patrolling or managing territories.
- (Asset) Bilingualism, French and English.
- (Asset) Ability to identify local wildlife and plant species at risk.

**Other requirements**
- Must have a valid social insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial laws and regulations.
- Possess a first aid certificate valid for the duration of the internship or be able to take and pass this course at his/her own expense before the start of the internship.
- Valid class 5 driver's license.
- (Asset) Some funders require interns to be between 18 and 30 years of age for the duration of the internship, or to be registered as full-time students during the winter session.

**Conditions of employment**
- Working language: French (English an asset)
- Target start date: May 5, 2025
- Work schedule: 37.5 h/week
- Salary: $21.00/hr
- A monthly lump sum of $25 will be paid for the use of the intern's personal computer and cell phone.
- Travel and stays away from home are to be expected for field tasks, including some evenings and weekends. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.
- For safety reasons, field work is carried out in teams of two.
