- Zurich Canada is currently looking for an Auto Underwriter, Middle Market for the Eastern region in either Montreal or Quebec City. Reporting to the VP, Middle Market, Eastern Canada will be responsible for creating strong broker relationships with the aim to provide meaningful customer service and strong commercial insurance solutions. Through development of strong broker relationships, you will thoughtfully underwrite new and renewal business while actively engaging in the marketplace to enhance the Zurich Canada brand. You will shape your portfolio of accounts within the broader Middle Market strategy as you utilize The Zurich Way of Underwriting, working within your delegated authority to ensure a high level of accountability and equally high level of service to customers. What you will do
- Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework and within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination.
- Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
- Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
- May provide guidance to lower-level associates.
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and brokers to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
- Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for brokers and customers.
- Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
- Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
- Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
- Make broker/customer and on-sight calls.
- Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account
- Proactively engage in the target account process.
- Serve as key Zurich contact for assigned target accounts.
- Anticipate customer needs, monitor trends in order to recommend changes.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

**Required**:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area.

OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

AND
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
- Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines Preferred
- Fluent proficiency in both English and French

**Preferred**:

- Bachelors Degree with 1 or more years experience in the underwriting area
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Microsoft Office skills

Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
