Note: This sessional lecturer posting is divided into two 50% FTE roles. The course will be co-taught by both individuals.

**Course description**:
Introduction to public policy including the role and interaction of technology and regulation, policy reinforcing/feedback cycles; procedures for legislation and policy setting at the municipal, provincial and federal levels; dimensions of energy policy; energy planning and forecasting including demand management and conservation incentives; policy institution, analysis, implementation, evaluation and evolution; Critical analyses of case studies of energy and associated environmental policies with respect to conservation and demand management for various utilities and sectors; policy derivatives for varied economic and social settings, developing countries and associated impacts.

**Estimated enrolment**: 60

**Estimated TA support**: 70 hours

**Course Schedule**:Wednesdays 9-11a.m., Fridays 12-2 p.m..

**Sessional dates of appointment**: January 1 - April 30, 2025

**Stipend**: $7,200 inclusive of vacation pay (50% FTE)

**Qualifications**: Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in the area of energy and environmental policy economics and analysis relating to the not-for-profit, public and private sectors; environmental economics for public policy; previous experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable. P.Eng. is not required, but familiarity with engineering concepts is an asset. Expertise should be in either the process of policy making within the framework of a democratic constitution, or the political implications (e.g. energy security) and technological dimensions (e.g. renewables).

**Duties**: The lecturers will prepare for and deliver 13 weeks of lectures and tutorials; set assignments and term work assessments and final assessment as appropriate; collate and submit marks; handle petitions after final marks have been submitted; communicating with students both inside and outside of class times. Preparation of a deferred examination may also be required. Delivery of this course is intended to be in-person but may be online or a hybrid as dictated by Public Health guidelines.
