Course Description:

The course begins with an examination of the concept of business mission. Students are then challenged to evaluate the external and industry environments in which businesses compete, to identify sources of competitive advantage and value creation, and to understand and evaluate the strategies of active Canadian companies.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must demonstrate superior teaching ability and possess appropriate academic and/or professional qualifications (Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidacy in a relevant field) along with a mastery of the subject matter. The successful applicant will have a proven record of teaching excellence in this or a closely related course, the ability to engage a diverse student body, strong organizational and communication skills, and experience using relevant learning technologies and online teaching platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will have substantial practical experience applying the subject matter in professional contexts, as well as an active research profile in the area covered by the course, demonstrated through recent peer-reviewed publications in academic journals.

Duties:

The duties of Sessional Lecturers shall include the normal duties associated with the design and teaching of university degree credit courses or sections of courses. These include the preparation and delivery of course content, including lectures and/or seminars; creation of course ware; the development/administration of assignments, tests and examinations; the marking/grading of student work and the submission of grades to appropriate University officials in accordance with policy; the maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours; and the supervision of the day-to-day work of any Sessional Instructional Assistants or Teaching Assistants assigned to the course.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

In considering qualified applicants, teaching excellence, currency in and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course at undergraduate (university) level or similar environment; several years related professional experience shall be the criteria used in the selection of the most qualified candidate in accordance with Article 14:12.

Salary for a half-course (0.50 FCEs) inclusive of vacation pay: The Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $9, Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term rate of pay will be $10, Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $10, Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term rate of pay will be $10, Sessional Lecturer III rate of pay will be $10, Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term rate of pay will be $11,030.36.
