Reporting to the Deputy Minister, the Director will provide innovative leadership to a team of professionals in the creation and delivery of the Ministries’ strategies, planning, polices and operations to enable the ministry to meet its mandate, operational objectives and goals. The Director will provide leadership and advice regarding the development and implementation of critical programming and supports to inform decisions related to public education. The incumbent will promote a collaborative culture with stakeholders at all levels and represent the interests of the ministry by participating in various cross-ministry initiatives and teams.
**Duties will include but are not limited to**:
- Support the Deputy Minister with educational programming and initiatives between the Department of Education and Early Years and the Public Schools Branch;
- Provide leadership, direction and support to several legislated provincial committees, and liaise with Educational Authorities and external stakeholders;
- Lead and guide to action the priorities for 21st Century curriculum, teaching and learning in the English public education system;
- Lead and provide advice regarding the development and implementation of curriculum, programs and supports to inform decisions related to English public education;
- Provide high quality advice and information to the Minister, Deputy Minister, Senior Management Team, Senior communications Officer and Public Schools Branch Senior Management Team;
- Function**as the lead spokesperson to internal and external communities on matters related to the division;
- Support the preparation of Cabinet and Treasury Board to present/respond to questions on issues and funding requests related to English Education and Programs;
- Responsible for the financial decisions and human resources for the division;
- Develop and oversee the implementation of the school goals framework, and the System of Student Achievement;
- Lead the work in English public education and implement supports in conjunction with innovative initiatives at the national, provincial and regional levels;
- Support and direct the School Administrator Leaders in providing quality leadership, advice, and support for the development and administration processes and tools required to implement system wide school administrator support plans;
- Provide oversight for the Student Assessment (English) program;
- Lead strategic planning for the Division;
- Work with the Deputy Minister and senior management team, and board authorities in the development and promotion of the province’s vision, broad goals and priorities;
- The Director will assist with the critical analysis of policy options and participate in presenting recommendations to the Minister and Deputy Minister;
- Receive and respond to the priorities identified by Councils for planning within English public education;
- Prepare and present written and oral communications for internal and external audiences;
- Lead and participate in stakeholder consultations and support ongoing stakeholder relations critical to the work of the division; and
- Other duties as required.
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- Bachelor in Education; Master Degree, supplemented by course work and training in curriculum development, educational leadership and learning, and an emphasis on research.
- Currently hold, or be able to secure PEI Teacher Level 6 Academic Certification.
- Experience in leading the identification of learning needs of educators.
- Experience in the development and delivery of professional learning to adult learners.
- Must have extensive teaching experience in the public education system.
- Considerable experience in leading teams and facilitating groups.
- Applicants must have proven leadership and administrative skills acquired through extensive experience in education administration at the school, school board or department level.
- Applicants must also possess excellent written and oral communication and team building skills.
**Other Qualifications**:
- Experience leading test development and formative assessments would be considered an asset.
- Experience in curriculum development would be an asset.
