Attendance Support Coordinator

**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, the Attendance Support Coordinator is accountable to ensure the Attendance Support Program is running effectively, while offering support to managers and staff in order to educate and promote the safe return to work and regular attendance at work.
Education
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related discipline.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Health Sciences and/or Kinesiology is preferred.
**Knowledge**:
- 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, Health and Safety and Disability Claims Management
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Human Rights legislation
- Disability Management Certificate (National Institute of Disability Management and Research), or equivalent related qualifications and experience preferred
- Knowledge of ergonomic principles, musculoskeletal disorders, assessment tools and methodologies to analyze and assess work environments.
- Knowledge of mental health issues, assessment tools, and return to work strategies
- Knowledge of the Parklane Claims Management and People Soft systems are preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills
- Knowledge of Kronos and Peoplesoft is an asset
**Responsibilities**:
- Collaborates and coordinates programs relating to staff on WSIB, STD and LTD and facilitates work re-entry via Temporary Transitional Work Plans (TTWP)._**_ (35% of time_**)**
- Supports and works with management and Employee Health Services staff to successfully coordinate staff TTWP’S and return to work plans.
- Communicates with management staff regarding work assignment and management of disability cases.
- Assists management in ensuring staffs’ early and safe return to work.
- Works effectively with union representatives.
- Works closely with Employee Health Services on complex cases.
- Assists management in the administration of the ASP program. (_**_30% of time)_**
- Works with the Employee Health Services in the effective coordination and proper administration of the medical certificate requirement process, as well as the Attendance Support Program
- Coordinates meetings with management and staff to discuss strategies to support improvements in attendance management.
- Runs bi-weekly reports and updates the system as required.
- Assists in the development and delivery of training materials to support the education of both employees and management with respect to the Attendance Support Program.
- Identifies potential culpable absenteeism and laisse with Labour Relations and management to determine next steps.
- Identifies potential accommodation strategies for employees with high absenteeism and coordinates with Employee Health Services and the manager to implement.
- Tracks, analyzes, and prepares reports on STD, LTD, ASP WSIB data by division, identifying trends and providing recommendations on potential programs/practices that may be introduced/modified to reduce lost time. _**_(15% of time)_**
- Initiates and supports research in order to track attendance trends.
- Reviews and analyzes statistics, developing and implementing programs and practices to enhance the efficiency of disability prevention and management practices in the division.
- Provides regular reports to the Director and management teams on trends and programs that will assist in reducing lost time and costs to the corporation.
- Conducts statistical analysis and review of data to better track trends and recommending corrective action.
- Develops proactive programs that will assist in reducing lost time and associated costs.
- Assesses and identifies key issues and programs in order to reduce lost time and avoid occupational absences.
- Implements and coordinates new programs and practices, in concert with Health & Safety Support staff.
- Claims Support_ **(10% of time)**
- With the assistance of Employee Health Services staff, supports management staff in the effective administration of case management strategies.
- Liaises with Niagara Region stakeholders, ensuring approach and communication style is objective, detailed and sensitive to the situation.
- Maintains systems to ensure the effective monitoring and prioritization of claims to mitigate risk and loss.
Risk Management and Health Promotion **_(10% of time)_**
- Through the delivery of enhanced services, identifies risks and engages the necessary stakeholders to address and mitigate such risks.
- Promotes the awareness and proper administration of Corporate and Department policies, programs and practices that foster staff safety, health, well-being, and regular attendance at work.
- May participate as a member of the divisional safety committee, or on other relevant committees.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required._
