**On-site Sewage System Inspector (North Bay Office)**

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) is a community-based unionized environmental organization. We are dedicated to conserving, restoring, developing, and managing renewable natural resources on a watershed basis, considering human, economic and natural environment needs together in an integrated watershed management approach.
Reporting to the Chief Building Official, Manager On-Site Sewage Systems you will be conducting inspection of lands currently serviced or proposed to be serviced by on-site sewage systems to ascertain compliance with the provisions of the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, Municipal By-laws and other applicable regulations and standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- As the provincially legislated authority having jurisdiction, perform statutory responsibilities in the capacity of Sewage System Inspector for NBMCA’s sewage system program. Responsible for the review and recommendation respecting the issuance of sewage system permits, reviewing existing systems for performance level reduction and Planning Act comments, and adapt to revisions to provincial acts, regulations, by-laws and standards.
- Investigate complaints, and enforce operation and maintenance of OBC/BCA requirements
- Communicate with property owners and try to obtain compliance and Issue orders on a property if compliance is not achieved.
- Other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications
- Two year college degree in engineering technology or environmental sciences or other closely related field with three years of experience working with Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code (OBC)
- Certified as a Building Official for Part 8 of the OBC and Building Code Act
- OBC Part 8 Certification Exam
- OBC Legal Process Exam
- Qualification and registration with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, while meeting daily deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
- Strong computer and word processing abilities (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional and use of digital mapping software).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize workload and to work effectively and efficiently with mínimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability and aptitude for field work
- Conflict resolution skills
- Standard first aid
- Valid M.T.O. driver’s license with a clean driving record
**Your Reward**
Salary range of $30.19 to $35.32 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week
