**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, the Health, Safety and Environmental Intern will support various tasks and projects to drive a safety culture and ensure compliance with applicable legislation. This role provides hands-on experience in HSE practices, procedures, and initiatives for our Brampton facility. This role is fully onsite with hours of work being 8 am to 4:30 pm.
**Primary/Essential Responsibilities**:
- Conduct routine safety inspections and assessments of the workplace to identify potential hazards and safety violations.
- Collect and analyze data related to safety incidents, near misses, and safety compliance, including environmental safety metrics.
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause identifications.
- Complete and maintain Physical Demands Analysis and Job Hazard Analysis for various jobs.
- Support ergonomic assessments and improvements to workstations to prevent injuries.
- Assist in the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
- Organize and maintain records and documentation related to safety protocols, incidents, and training.
- Participate in the updating of emergency response plans and procedures, including those related to environmental incidents.
- Collaborate on environmental/sustainability projects aimed at reducing the organization's environmental impact. This may include waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management.
- Communicate directly with shop employees, as well as with management and production supervisors.
- Participate in activities that promote a culture of safety within the organization.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Must be enrolled as a 3rd or 4th year student in a bachelor’s degree program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Project management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to the Health and Safety and the Environment.
- Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety and environmental legislation and engineering documents.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Power Point), SharePoint, etc., advanced knowledge of Excel.
