**Overview**:
At Mainland, the Estimator plays a pivotal role in the successful execution of our projects by ensuring accurate and timely cost assessments. This position focuses on a variety of civil work subdivisions, townhouse sites, and greenfield projects in the private sector. The Estimator will work closely with project teams to analyze specifications, manage budgets, and deliver precise cost projections that drive our projects forward. This position directly reports to the Bid Manager.

**Responsibilities**:

- Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to assess overall project scope, timelines, requirements and associated risk, monitors addenda for alterations of terms and scope
- Compile and analyzes cost data including reviewing historical data
- Consults with subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders regarding invitations, pricing, addenda, schedules, tender/bid closings; reviews bid/tender documents, assesses potential risk and resolves potential issues
- Supports creation of the schedule (with milestones) on which the estimate is based, with input from the project team and the relevant subcontractors and suppliers
- Produces quantity take-offs for labour, equipment, materials, safety and security requirements needed to complete the project per contract specifications, ensuring accuracy of pricing
- Prepares lump sum, unit based and cost-plus estimates for projects, and presents/or supports the presentation of estimate proposals
- Completes final cost estimate of a project through the use estimating software system, incorporating all labour, equipment, and material data, pricing documentation, overhead and profit margins, and produces a final tender submission for review
- Assists in the preparation of the final tender and proposal documents for submission on behalf of Mainland Group.
- Committed to continuous improvement and adherence to procedures, standards, rules, and regulations
- Read, understand and promote the QMS system to all employees, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers, as applicable
- May perform other related duties as assigned

**Qualifications/Experience - Knowledge/Skills**
- Completion of a diploma or degree in a construction related discipline is preferred - however equivalent experience will be considered
- Experience in construction
- General construction knowledge; understands practices, techniques, specifications, procedures, and equipment
- Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop a project schedule
- Ability to identify risk associated with contract/project documents
- Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and estimating software - Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid is an asset
- Strong verbal communication skills; sound communication with all stakeholders
- Analytical, organized, thorough and detailed in your work
- Strong writing skills with concise documentation and reporting
- Ability to work in a team environment; willing to collaborate with others, and if you have senior experience, share your knowledge by coaching and guiding others
- Solid interpersonal skills; develops positive relationships
- Ability to problem solve, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a time sensitive environment
- Valid Class 5 drivers license with satisfactory abstract
