**TACK COAT OPERATOR**
Today we have the opportunity as a Tack Coat Operator, based out of our head office location in Niagara Falls.
The job of the Tack Coat Operator is to efficiently operate an asphalt distributor and maintain an acceptable level of workmanship and productivity. This is achieved by spraying various asphalt based tack coats before paving operations to help asphalt adhere to the road structure.
This is a unionized position with a competitive hourly wage and union benefits and pension.
Major (Primary) Responsibilities:
- Operate the Tack Truck in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment;
- Load and unload tack truck with tack coat;
- Fill burner tanks, cleaning and setting spray bars;
- Perform daily maintenance checks and report any mechanical or safety issues;
- Tack coat ticket - filling out and having signed by customers;
- Complete driver logbook daily;
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture;
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others;
- Be a representative of Walker Industries to customers as a front-line worker.
**Skills**:This position requires a demonstrated degree of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize daily tasks. Proficient level of courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with others in every day working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details, and makes sure work is done correctly and thoroughly. Keeps accurate records.
- Have a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
- Possess a positive “can do” attitude.
- Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required.
- Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one on one or group situations, or over the telephone.
Qualifications:
- DZ License required.
- Experience within the road construction industry.
- Some mechanical knowledge.
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
- Schedule is flexible and requires weekend work.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience operating an Asphalt Distributor Truck, an asset.
- Working out of town is required.
