Job Summary

The Draftsperson will be responsible for effectively contributing to the Sotawall Ltd. projects. Provide support to senior drafting/design staff, department and project managers with activities such as making requested modifications to drawings, providing details to answer questions and helping solve problems. This position requires drafts people to have an understanding of how the Drafting and Design departments operate, files are shared, drawings are completed /checked, and make timely and measurable contributions towards successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and prepare fabrication drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data Drafting new drawings with AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor or similar software Develop and prepare design sketches Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data Write technical reports Operate computer-assisted drafting equipment or a conventional drafting station May attend customer meetings and sites. May Interact with other managers or leads in the related functions Partner with the Project Managers and Design in order to ensure that the proper inputs are attained in order to create our manufacturing specifications and work with the manufacturing team to ensure that we design specifications in-line with our manufacturing capabilities. Respond quickly to the shop floor’s needs to provide practical and effective technical and drawing problem-solving input to assist in the prompt resolution of on-the-floor manufacturing issues or challenges. Promote and foster a team oriented proactive and positive approach in the work place. Support continuous improvement objectives, including lean enterprise activities: establish, align, prioritize and resource allocation for achievement thereof consistent with the strategies, plans and objectives of the Company and, when required, ensure that suitable progress is taking place. Participate in the development and continuity of a robust quality management system. Maintain good housekeeping practices in work area using the 5s + 1 principles Actively participate and support continuous improvement initiatives Duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time in order to support efficient company operations.

Competencies and Qualifications
- College diploma or University degree in a civil engineering technology program
- Minimum 5 years of experience in professional architecture aluminum industry, mainly curtain-walling.
- Certified Technicians and Technologists Association preferred.
- Computer proficiency in 2D & 3D design is must.
- Current working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor or similar software
- Strong skills in: effective communication (verbal and written); problem identification and solution-oriented problem solving; collaboration, coaching and team building.
- Must be well organized and display an infectious day to day positive attitude and spirit of continuous improvement
- Industry experience will be given preference
- Must have the ability to partner with internal customers in order to develop manufacturing specifications and/or fabrication drawings effectively.
- Working knowledge of Inventor is an asset.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to produce succinct reports/presentations to communicate status of assigned projects/tasks.
- A tenacious personality that will not let an issue be left unresolved.
- Sound technical background (hands-on) with logical deductive reasoning approach
- Interest in developing technical skills through both internal and external training
- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques
- Conviction to improve personally and support continuous improvement in the department and company as a whole

Working Conditions
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Overtime as required
- Weekend work may be required
- May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing
- Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toed safety shoes.
- May be exposed to heat and humidity, load noise levels and exposure to dust.
