**ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER**
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Business Division: MFN Grocery Store Inc.
Position Status: Full-Time (32 - 40 hrs. per week)
Employment Status: Regular (Subject to a three-month probationary period)
**Position Summary**:
The objective is to manage the staffing team and departments in all aspects of purchasing, receiving, merchandising and pricing of products (to sell and to use) with the goal of efficient processes and store profitability.
**Reporting Relationship**:
Reports to the Grocery Store Manager
**Essential Responsibilities**:
- Orders all groceries and supplies needed for all departments based on a schedule; Loblaws, DSD and authorized vendors and in consultation with department staff
- Supervises receiving staff to ensure product is received, handled properly and promptly
- Completes all necessary reports and processes for: shrink, transfers, credits, reclaim, shortages
- Ensures all products purchased to sell are entered into the SIR system with appropriate price and label so they can be sold through cash system
- Ensures weekly flyer is followed
- Items purchased for flyer sale, if appropriate
- Sale label batches are generated for entire store
- Ensure accuracy of flyer labels, label descriptions and costing
- Direct and monitor staff processes for identifying outdated product
- Monitors and enforces Steritech guidelines such as: operational logs, department organization/operation, cleanliness and hazard-free environment
- Monitor financial reports to ensure profitability
- Lead staff in each department to achieve efficient operations, high standards of customer service and profitability
- Responsible for the direct training of employees by giving one-on-one guidance on job description and daily operations
- Attend Board of Director meeting upon request of Store Manager, or in his absence
- Ensures products for sale are well displayed and merchandised through shelf alignment, displays, markers, isle number and description and special seasonal offerings
- Assist Store Manager, if requested, to help solve problems and making recommendations for improvements
- Monitors and has awareness of the area competitors, pricing, promotions
- Sources “local” products, to support the local businesses, when possible, while providing additional offerings
- Leads and supervises the cleaning and general maintenance of the entire store and property; must be safe, clean and tidy always; garbage management, pallet stacking
- Responsible for store security, door locks, key controls and enforcement of employee purchasing rules.
- In absence of Store Manager, the Assistant is responsible for store operations
- Any other duties assigned by the Store Manager
**Qualifications and Requirements**
**Preferred**
- University Degree in Management/Commerce or related field of study
- At least 2 years retail supervisor experience: hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, etc.
- At least 2 years Inventory control and financial management experience
- Knowledge and/or experience with Anishnabek culture, history, and customs
**Minimum**
- College Diploma in Business/Management or related field of study
- At least 2 years retail purchasing or merchandise experience
**Other**:
- Provide leadership in emergency/accident situations, following store procedures and completing necessary paperwork/reports
- Maintain grocery retail and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting health and safety standards
- Commitment to providing superior customer service and ability to work closely and cooperatively with others
- Firm grasp on market pricing
- Organized, consistently follows through on communication
- Must be self-motivated, ability to work under mínimal supervision and in a team environment
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Must be honest and dependable
- Approachable and maintains employee and patron/customer relations
- Committed to continuous professional development to enhance effective solutions and recommendations
- Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, professionalism including a high level of confidentiality
- Flexible to work schedule determined by Store Manager, including evenings, and weekend as necessary
- Must have driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to work on tile/concrete flooring and in a fast-paced work environment
- Physical ability to move large, bulky and/or heavy merchandise and perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, walking and other activities necessary to perform job duties
**Physical Demands**:
The physical effort typically applied in this job includes:
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Climbing stairs
- Ability to push/pull product on carts
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
