**Job Summary**
- The goal of the James R. Johnston Chair in Black Canadian Studies (JRJ Chair) is to develop and advance the field of Black studies in Canada, while also fostering the understanding of the diversity of Blackness through research to produce significant scholarship, national networks, and teaching, and to build bridges and connections between academia and African Nova Scotian communities. The Black Studies Research Institute (BSRI) is an establishment founded for doing research (basic and applied) and linking and supporting researchers in the areas of Black Studies. - ** **provide advanced coordination functions to manage the Institute’s research projects and pursue revenue generating projects.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Support the initial establishment of a governance model, and advisory committee and fellow selection protocols. Organize and facilitate stakeholder engagement meetings, surveys, feedback in close coordination with the Interim Director.
- Manage a variety of research projects, (grants, contracts, contribution agreements, partnerships and MOU) with numerous sponsors, co-investigators, and partners, from initiation through to planning, execution, reporting, and closing.
- Develop and oversee project schedules to deliver project outputs on time, and manage project budget and cash flow. Manage project communications, including reporting, and identifying and carrying out knowledge translation opportunities and activities.
- Conduct environmental scans, internal and external research for data sharing opportunities, literature reviews and other grant-related research; analyze, interpret, synthesize and present data and findings; and enter and keep data up-to-date.
- Identify, proactively pursue, and develop event partnerships and opportunities (e.g. panel discussions, stakeholder briefings, presentations, roundtable meetings, conferences, workshops). Plan, coordinate, and manage events with national significance.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline such as Black Studies, Health Studies, Social Science plus approximately three to five years’ related experience, preferably in an academic, research and/or not for profit environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required.
- _ _Project management experience and experience writing funding proposals and coordinating multi-disciplinary academic grant proposals is required. Must have strong financial and personnel acumen with demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and operations management. Demonstrated familiarity with Black Studies, STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) and/or anti-Black racism is required. Must have strong analytical, research skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
