Torcher/yard Worker

**Job Summary**

As a Torcher/Yard Worker for K&K Industrial Services, you’ll be part of our yard team and off-site crew, and your primary job will be to cut and torch the material to process the oversized scrap metal at our locations and project sites across Canada. This person will work with K&K’s yard and off-site team lead and must be able to work under minimum supervision. This position entails the worker’s availability from Monday to Friday between 5 am - 4 pm approximately with possible extended and flexible hours; to work evenings and weekends.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Conduct a daily pre-inspection and operational check of the equipment and work area before the start and at the end of the shift, or more often if needed.
- Record pre-inspection results and submit as per defined frequency.
- Conduct the work area inspection and preparation for hot work (welding/torching) and the post-hot work inspection and care.
- Manual material handling or operating the equipment in a safe, efficient, and productive manner while cutting, torching, loading, unloading and sorting the material
- Safely handle/store the gas cylinders before, during and after the shift per regulatory/safety standards.
- Maintain the housekeeping of the equipment and work area.
- Load/unload trailers as appropriate with the help of a loader, forklift or skid steer.
- Perform daily maintenance of equipment.
- Refuel equipment as needed.
- Additional duties are assigned in the yard when not busy.

**Qualifications**
- 2-3 years of experience using a variety of welding/torching equipment and procedures
- High School or equivalent with a welding or torching training certificate is preferred
- Knowledge of fire, hot work and relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Experienced in handling gas cylinders with WHMIS and Fire Safety training would be an asset
- Must have a safety and compliance mindset and follow all Safe Work procedures required for the job.
- Nice to have training or experience in operating loaders, forklifts, bobcats, or skid steers
- Experienced in using power and hand tools
- Hands-on experience with the ability to fix small repairs with the equipment
- Capable of doing physical labour, manual lifting and sorting the materials.
- Working outside with moving equipment around in extreme weather conditions
- Willing to work extended and flexible hours; the flexibility to work afternoons/evenings/weekends
- Must be available to travel and work on off-site projects across Ontario and out of the province if required.
- Must have a valid driving license and a reliable vehicle (as needed)
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to act as a team player and assist co-workers when needed.

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
