PURPOSE

The Parent Resource Centre’s EarlyON Child and Family Centre is looking for Casual/On-Call support staff to join our energetic team offering engaging and accessible programming.

The EarlyON Program Facilitator is responsible for planning and facilitating high-quality developmentally appropriate inclusive programs and services for families and caregivers with children 0-6. Programs include drop-in playgroups, Toy Lending Library, parent sessions, and outdoor programming.

The Casual/On-Call EarlyON Program Facilitator will play an important role in the ongoing programing of the PRC’s EarlyON Child and Family Centre. They will contribute to the day-to-day operation of the EarlyON Program by ensuring a positive experience for children and their families. They will also help strengthen community connections by creating accessible programs and resources that support the developmental needs of young children and provide parents with supports and resources.

REPORTS TO: Director of Early Learning

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Support
- Establish safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for families and children 0-6 setting up engaging activities and play spaces both indoors and outdoors
- Encourage and support positive parent-child/caregiver-child interactions through trusting relationships and environmental design
- Oversee and manage large groups ensuring safety guidelines and playgroup expectations are being followed
- Greet and register new clients and provide initial orientation to our programs and services
- Assess children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive learning needs and adjust programming accordingly and with consideration to observed interests
- Provide supportive practical assistance and resources on parenting and child development
- Keep current with parenting, caregiving and child development best practices while implementing programming in accordance with How Does Learning Happen: Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
- Lead interactive circles for families, caregivers, and children 0-6 incorporating stories, movement, and music to promote skill development in various areas
- Manage the Toy Lending Library and support families in selecting appropriate materials for their children explaining learning benefits and ways they can engage with items
- Cultivate and model equitable practices respecting and celebrating diversity in all forms
- Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice
- Collaborate with team to plan programming, share relevant information, and ensure all programming tasks are being met

Administrative Duties
- Register families/caregivers for playgroups using city-wide oneHSN database
- Ensure client confidentiality
- Track toy lending through the ResourceMate database
- Gather and report statistical information as needed
- Access files and utilize resources on internal agency shared drives
- Liaise with Director of Early Learning and perform other related duties as required
- Keeps all EarlyON program related materials stocked and available for clients

Community Development & Partnerships
- Promote PRC, its mission and services with clients and the community
- Foster community partnerships to support the growth of evidence-based parenting programs and services, particularly for high needs and priority populations
- Welcome and orient partners and guest speakers introducing them to programs, staff, and clients providing resources and equipment as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Experience, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working with children
- Sound knowledge of child development and community resources
- Experience working with children and families and diverse populations
- Experience overseeing and facilitating groups
- Familiarity with the How Does Learning Happen Framework and Childcare and Early Years Act
- Understanding of attachment and trauma-informed care
- Sound knowledge of PRC programs and services
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Ability to be self-directed and anticipate program related needs

Education
- Diploma/Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Management, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other equivalent post-secondary education training.

Language
- Fluent in English, oral and written
- Bilingualism an asset

Additional Requirements
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector is required
- Ability to work some evening and weekend shifts as required
- RECE in good standing with CECE is considered an asset

Salary $24-26/hourly

Hours Casual/On-Call position; some evening and weekend shifts will be required. Willing to work flexible shifts fluctuating between 3-7 hours long (full day/half-day).
