**Position Overview**
The Atlantic Eelgrass Project is a multi-partner collaboration across Nova Scotia, led by the Future of Marine
Ecosystems research lab at Dalhousie University and co-coordinated by the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq. The project aims to conduct science-grounded climate-smart restoration of eelgrass meadows with local communities across the Maritimes. It combines community engagement, scientific trials and research, and outreach and education.
Under the direction of the Director of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management, and reporting to the Manager of
Aquatic Ecosystems, the **Project Lead** will coordinate research and restoration activities across the many partners in the project. These activities include those related to eelgrass replanting, fostering and maintaining community relationships and supporting logistics and research activities around eelgrass restoration and mapping, project management, monitoring project development and success, engaging with outreach, and liaising with Dalhousie
University and project partners.

**Overview of Responsibilities**:
- The coordination and successful completion of Sea Grass project activities.
- Ensure project stays on track to meet timeline and deliverables, and monitor and report progress
- Perform administrative duties, including tracking project budget, drafting progress reports, maintaining work and safety protocols, and planning community events.
- Work with our communications team to develop and organize outreach and educational activities for communities
- Organize fieldwork logistics and ensure safe and effective working conditions for restoration procedures
- Laisse with Dalhousie University’s Future of Marine Ecosystems research lab and our communities
- Developing aquatic resource management project ideas and proposals as guided by our departmental advisory committee; and submitting for management’s review.
- Initiating research activities and studies in collaboration with First Nations, Government agencies, academia and the private sector regarding the present health and status of Mainland NS’s aquatic and ocean environments.
- Conducting literature reviews, surveys, and other research as directed by Division Manager; and, organizing research, reference materials, and other related materials in an easily assessable manner.
- Develop creative and effective ways to present project activities and results to Mi’kmaw youth, community members, leadership, colleagues, and project partners, in a clear and concise manner.
**Position Requirements**:
The following qualifications are desired:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental or social sciences (or related field)
- Two-years of relevant working experience
- Experience working in or with First Nation communities
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in project coordination and management, budgeting/finances and report writing
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Knowledge of research methodologies and standards pertinent to environmental issues related to aquatic resource and oceans management
- Is able to work unsupervised with a high level of productivity with the ability to seek and take direction
- Have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Experience in environmental, social or marine science
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in and around water.
- Must have the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in and around water
- Fluent Mi’kmaw speaker and writer is an asset
- Further beneficial skills: Pleasure Boat Operator License, SVOP. Diving Certification
