**Position Overview**
Under the direction of the Director of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management, and reporting to the
Manager of Aquatic Ecosystems, the Field Technician is responsible for assisting Project Leads with fieldwork and engagement activities for Aquatic
- related projects. The Technician will primarily be responsible for assisting with wetland and stream assessments, data collection, fish sampling and collection, and assisting with the documentation of research activities. There are several projects within our aquatics branch that field techs will work on.
**Overview of Responsibilities**:
- Assist project lead(s) with respective project workplan(s)
- Aid with the planning and execution of field activities.
- Conduct literature reviews, compile/analyze research results, compile surveys and research, and write project reports as directed
- Write project reports and deliver presentations and briefings for management, as required
- Adhere to safety protocols associated with field work in aquatic environments
- Compile and map fish and fish habitat monitoring data via the use of various survey methods.
- Assist with preparing and submitting scientific research permits and/or amendments and ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations
- Calibration of equipment, monitoring data quality, and troubleshooting throughout field operations
- Safe and effective operation of equipment during use while adhering to safety guidelines while in and around water and during operation
- Liaise with and develop working relationships with project team, project partners, and external technologists and researchers, as needed
**Position Requirements**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental and/or natural sciences, or relevant working experience
- Must have the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor field work in and around water.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience with technical report writing (sample writing may be requested)
- Experience working in or with First Nation communities
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work productively as part of several project teams
- Knowledge of research methodologies and standards pertinent to environmental issues related to aquatic resource and oceans management
- Must have access to a vehicle and have valid driver’s licence

**Salary/Employment Term**:
Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000 per year. This is a One Year position with opportunity for renewal
(pending successful one-year probationary contract and funding).
