ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Other duties may be assigned.
- Instruct and overseeing the track maintenance employees.
- Adhere to policy and procedures, recruitments, training, handling staffing issues, prepare weekly schedules, payroll timesheets.
- Oversee all track watering, grading the racetrack, harrowing, and general daily care practices.
- Implement and oversee a scheduled and recorded surface measuring and analyzing plan with results being distributed to the Racing Manager, Racing Secretary and to the ASHA and HBPA track committee.
- Implement and oversee all large track maintenance projects (re-surfacing, re-grading etc.)
- Train key employees to be knowledgeable with all aspects of surface grooming.
- Ensure staff have required tools/equipment and that they perform their duties safely, efficiently and in required manner.
- Make regular reports (oral and written) as required.
- Assist in developing yearly budget and work within that budget.
- Assess equipment breakdowns and emergency situations and coordinate their resolutions.
- Work with other managers to ensure that stable area policies are being adhered to.
- Coordinate and supervise work with outside contractors and suppliers: tractor repairs, dirt, sand, fiber for tracks.
- Liaise with trainers, drivers, and jockeys on a daily basis; conditions on track, any barn area issues.
- Assure a safe, fair and efficient workplace environment for all employees.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Previous supervisory skills preferred.
- Knowledge of regulations, racing or horse industry preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience operating the grader, heavy equipment such as forklift, tractor, water truck.
- Experience and general knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, etc. are required.

**ED**UCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
- Grade 12 education or suitable combination of education and experience

**LANGUAGE SKILLS**
- Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings.

**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS**
- Basic Math skills are required.

**OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Computer proficiency with Word and Excel

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Essential duties require lifting 100 or more pounds; and working a standard workweek with additional hours on a routine basis.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- Essential duties involve working with large numbers of people while both in an inside and outside environment, which is frequently loud or containing high noise levels.
