Program Assistant/summer Camp Coordinator- Adapted Sport

Applicants to this job posting will be used to fill one full time (35 hrs/week) position for 4 months with the possibility of extension. This summer camp portion of this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is.

The program assistant role will be from approximately April 28-June 30 while the summer camp coordinator role will be from July 2-August 20. Applicants must be available for both roles.

Program Coordinator Job Description:
The program assistant will work with the Program Coordinator to assist in facilitating adapted sport programming in the City of Edmonton, in addition to other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- Preference will be given to applicants who have a degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology & Sport Studies or Bachelor of Education.
- Administration and coaching education is an asset, though not required
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- A clear and up to date criminal and vulnerable sector check is required

Experience
- Demonstrated organizational, administrative, leadership and teaching skills
- Computer and word processing skills including a good understanding of all Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Volunteer or work experience with kid’s camps, organized sport or adapted physical education

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
- Highly organized
- Ability to lift 25lbs+ - repeated transportation of sleds to and from arenas is required
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Access to reliable personal transportation
- Time and schedule flexibility

Summer Camp Coordinator Job Description:
We are thrilled to once again be offering in person Inclusive Summer Camps. We've planned for 4 unique camps with registration opening right away. Our camps offer opportunities for various age groups including kids, teens and adults to meet new people, get active, and have fun These camps will feature a strong focus on adapted sport such as sledge hockey, boccia and adapted kayaking, while also including aspects of recreation, arts and crafts. We are looking for a high-energy, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about adapted physical activity, and creating a fun, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment. Outside of camps, you will have the opportunity to attend and support our other para programs including para kayaking, para golf and handcycling.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Assist, plan and lead various indoor and outdoor recreational and sporting activities and provide campers with assistance when necessary.
2. Adapt activities to each participant’s level of ability and function.
3. Provide a safe environment in which the campers can participate with limited risk of injury and enjoy the program fully.
4. Have fun and make every week of camp an amazing experience for every camper

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Inclusive Summer Camp Coordinator will plan, prepare, facilitate and evaluate our adapted summer camp offerings. Additional support will be provided by the Program Coordinator.
- Previous experience in Adapted Physical Activity is considered an asset, though previous camp councillor experience will be considered
- Access to reliable personal transportation is required
- Ability to comfortably lift +25lbs required
- Current Police Information Check required
- Current Emergency First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certification required
- Additional training not limited to Respect in Sport training provided Canadian Tire Jumpstart will be required upon successful hiring

**Job Type**: Temporary Full-time (with the possibility of extension beyond August 20)

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday (weekday and evening)
- Weekends as needed

Work Location: Hybrid (working from home when possible, with the remaining time on-site for programs, in person training/events/planning sessions, etc)
