Kihew FabCo has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager to join our team in Melville, Saskatchewan. **Key Job Duties**:
- The Health & Safety Manager will work closely with the operations management team and production managers.
- Will be responsible for the organization and execution of corrective and preventative safety activities with the overall objection to drive an incident free fabrication facility and return our associates home safe each day.
- Creates and promote a safe environment for the production and assembly of structural steel and mechanical process piping by promoting a Culture to Care where health and safety come first.
- Ensures that all fabrication and assembly processes are conducted with safety a first priority and all safety policies and practices are adhered to.
- Performs daily tail-gate safety meetings to ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and everyone has a complete understanding of safety protocols including emergency stop buttons, power switches and safety procedures.
- Performs job hazard analysis and ergonomic risk assessments; creates plans to reduce risk.
- Performs incident investigations, with the focus on root cause, corrective and preventative actions and verification.
- Creates and maintains a safety matrix and database to support all necessary safety training outlined by the client and OHSA standards.
- Manages workers compensation claims and aims to reduce costs by working closely with insurance carriers and state authorities in addition to this client’s supervisors and managers.
- Managers all claims from accident report to return of worker for modified duty and claim closure.
- Reviews planned changes and new equipment prior to receipt through a Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Develops and implements effective test programs for the identification, prevention and control of occupational injuries and illnesses using Hierarchy of Controls methodology.
- Builds and maintains the Safety Management System (SMS) database and report on; nonconformance, environmental spills, work observations, compliance obligations, root cause analysis, near misses, training management, audit management and incident management.
- Maintains accurate OHSA log.
- Accompanies visiting inspectors and reports findings.
- Administers a facility hazard communication program, including maintaining up to date SDS's effective identification and approval of all materials, chemicals, inventory and related training and education programs.
- Reviews all testing and support operations to assure ongoing safety; establishes safety performance metrics, both leading and lagging indicators.
- Works closely with and demonstrates elite safe work document controls during third party safety auditors during program reviews in accordance with COR, SECOR, and ISNetworld standards.
- Develops and implements internal audit programs to review and assure compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
- Contributes to maintaining market leadership position by ensuring safe, efficient manufacturing of quality products
- Supports client’s goal to consistently fill manufacturing capacity
- Ensures that safety certification reporting requirements and documentation controls are up-to-date and at the highest standard of excellence according to safety authority standards.
- Establishes, leads and demonstrates safety is priority as a culture.
- Consistently strives to meet or exceed prescribed targets from safety authority standards (i.e. safety, document control, operational efficiency, scheduling).
- Commits to ongoing knowledge and skills development.
- Shares skills and abilities with other associates to maximize productivity and promote teamwork.
- Is a good team player and fits in well with a large group of experiences executives, managers and staff, along with trainees and mentees.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Minimum 5 years of related industry experience.
- Bachelor's Degree; occupational safety/industrial hygiene or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing/test or construction environment.
- Minimum 2 years in a safety supervisory role.
- Experience in accident investigation, analysis and corrective action planning
