**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**

This role reports to the Student Health Promotion Coordinator.

**SUMMARY**

2SLGBTQIA+ Students are more likely to report experiencing systemic barriers in and outside the classroom. The Pride Peers is a peer to peer program with a specialized focus on supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ students and providing them with a safe and confidential space at KPU. The Pride Peers do not provide counselling, but they do provide confidential support, listening, and resource referral.

The Peer Pride Program’s main objectives are to:
1. Offer social support and mentorship to 2SLGBTQIA+KPU students
2. Provide students with Internal and external resource navigation and referrals
3. Advocate for enhanced student equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice at KPU

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Be available to support students at scheduled times at Pride spaces on KPU campuses
- Assist the Student Health Promotion team in the development, administration and evaluation of the Pride Peers Program. This includes creating resources, facilitating activities, discussion groups, workshops and events.
- Provide social support and referrals to KPU students by being knowledgeable in the services and resources offered by KPU and appropriate external resources.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, training sessions and ongoing PD opportunities
- Promote the program and represent the Pride Peers by participating in on campus outreach
- With support and guidance from the Student Health Promotion Team promote awareness and education around sexual and gender diversity issues
- Utilize social media platforms to promote the program and events, and engage with the KPU student body.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of at least one (1) year at a post-secondary institution or one (1) semester at KPU
- Must be a current KPU Student in good academic standing
- Must self-identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
- Students with past experience in 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy work and knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+ issues preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of resources on campus. Must have an interest in promoting awareness, education and safe spaces
- Must be able to attend mandatory training sessions and team meetings
- Must be able to present to groups of up to 30 participants
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality and privacy
- Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok)
- Creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work efficiently and complete tasks independently and as part of a team
- Experience with event planning is an asset
- Will be required to work up to 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule
- Occasional travel will be required between campuses and to off campus activities/events
- **Salary Information**

Student Assistants are paid as per the following:

- Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) - BC Minimum Wage
- One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) - BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
- With a post-secondary diploma or degree - BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
