Fall River, Canada Stephanie Full time

**SAFETY**
- Our son does not understand danger and will wander off if left unattended. Keep at least one set of eyes on him at all times (both inside and outside).
- Our son is unsteady on his feet, so he needs a hand to hold and physical support that is within arms reach.
- Seizures can happen unexpectedly. They are rare, but we will help you plan for what to do in the event one occurs.
- Driving the van, so our son can access recreation outside the home, is an important part of the job. You will be asked to sign a ”Safe Driving Agreement” and adhere to it.

**RECREATION AND FUN**
- Think of yourself as a paid “best friend”. Hang out with our son and help him do things he likes. Keep him company. Make his life fun and interesting
- whether at home or on the go.
- Bring your energy and creativity. Think outside the box.
- Our son enjoys walks outside (both on his feet and in his wheelchair, depending on his energy level), swimming, going to beaches, driving, going to shopping malls, riding the tandem trike at the Halifax Oval, hanging out in his hot tub and more.
- When he chooses to stay home, our son enjoys listening to music, doing puzzles, looking at books, playing games with a friend, watching TV, using apps on his iPad and more.

**ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING**
- Our son needs help with all aspects of self-care, including dressing, eating, using the bathroom, bathing, taking medication and walking.
- You will ensure our son has three main meals per day and plenty of snacking opportunities in between.
- Our son requires full assistance with using the toilet and having his briefs changed.

**SUPPORTING AND ENHANCING COMMUNICATION**
- We are working to increase our son's ability to make choices and to independently tell us what he wants/needs. Caregivers play an important role in helping with these goals.
- You will make sure his “communication binder” is within reach at all times, model words using the words binder, set up schedules (with our son) to help him make choices about his day and anticipate what comes next, use choice boards to offer choices whenever possible.
