March of Dimes Canada provides attendant care to its clients 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. The Community Support Leader will be required to work multiple shifts (i.e. work days, evenings, weekends) that vary between locations.

From our humble beginnings in 1951 as a group of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes in support of polio research, March of Dimes Canada has grown into a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization. We work for people with disabilities and seniors, helping them with daily living, rehabilitation and employment.

**What does the Community Support Services team do?**

Our Community Support Services team, which is primarily funded by governments, provides essential services that enable people to live as independently as possible. Whether the disability is physical, cognitive or the result of brain injury or aging, our team of 1,600 employees assists people in their homes and communities, helping them gain a greater level of functioning and connection with others. Over the past year, the number of people we serve rose to more than 6,100 people.

**This Opportunity**

We are currently looking to fill 1 Full Time Community Support Leader (CSL) role in our Supportive Housing Programs Located in **Oshawa and Whitby**.

**Starting wage is $22 ($3 pandemic pay added to the time spent providing direct client care).**

**Duties include the following**:

- Provide leadership in the efficient and safe delivery of CSS services to consumers with disabilities
- Lead a group of attendants in providing assistance to consumers with the non-medical activities of daily living.
- Assist the Community Support Supervisor in ensuring that schedules are developed according to the consumer’s plan of service.
- Assist in the renewal and management of consumer service agreements.
- Ensure the orientation, continuous goal setting, problem solving and service planning with consumers.
- Provide orientation and on the job training to all newly hired attendants and provide ongoing leadership and coaching to all attendants.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Display diplomacy with consumers, attendants, other service centers and agencies
- Manage change in a constructive and positive fashion
- Service delivery resolution and handle conflict resolution
- Participate in the On-Call/After Hours rotation

**Background / Qualifications**:

- High School graduate or equivalent
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, willingness to obtain
- Minimum two years of experience in Human Services field, working for people with physical disabilities
- Ability to lead and train staff
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- A team player that has the ability to accept responsibility, and to cooperate and communicate with others to accomplish goals
- Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care duties
- Knowledge of issues concerning physical disabilities
- Knowledge of behaviour management principles
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
- General understanding of computer hardware and software
- Valid License and Reliable Vehicle
- Proven consistency in work performance, including reliability and flexibility
- Ability to work varied shifts (shift coverage and will work every other weekend)
