**RESPONSIBILITIES**

The accountant must have basic knowledge and understanding of accounting principles to assist in all general accounting functions across the Canadian entity.

**Month End Close**:

- Assist with the close process which includes preparation and processing of journal entries including recurring entries, preparation of reporting and analytics, intercompany transactions, and reconciliations, etc.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through the preparation of monthly and quarterly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and ad hoc analysis as required
- Provide support in the detailed review of the financial results by understanding variances through investigation and follow up

**Reporting**:

- Support completion of quarterly legal package reporting and month end reporting

**Account Reconciliation**:

- Ensure all assigned general ledger accounts for all entities are reconciled with supporting analytics and participate in the quarterly balance sheet review process as instructed

**Cash/Bank**:

- Assist with the preparation of cash forecasting and monitor the company’s cash position on daily basis

**Fixed Assets**:

- Accountable for the fixed asset accounting which includes (but not limited to) maintaining internal orders, updating the fixed asset register, preparing the monthly reconciliation to the general ledger, preparing audit schedules, and investigating open projects with stakeholders (on a regular basis)

**Controls and Compliance**:

- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting data for internal controls purposes, evidencable through sign off
- Evaluate existing internal control documentation, testing current processes and procedures and providing recommendations

**Other**:

- Preparation of monthly Statistics Canada reports, commodity tax returns, and assist with audits
- Perform other related duties and/or projects that may arise or be assigned by your supervisor

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Basic knowledge of general accounting principles
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to learn new programs quickly and use them efficiently. Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is mandatory.
