Accounting Specialist

We are currently seeking a full -time **Accounting Specialist **to join our Finance team located in the **Burlington** head office.

**Position Overview**

The Accounting Specialist’s core responsibilities include managing various financial and regulatory reporting areas, assisting with financial and regulatory processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. With financial reporting experience and basic understanding of investment dealer operations, this role will focus on being a key contributor to the financial reporting team including working collaboratively with other cross functional team members.

To be an Accounting Specialist, you have experience in financial reporting, a base knowledge of finance systems & functions, and a continuous improvement mindset. **What you will do**:

- Be a key member and contributor of the financial reporting team, providing financial information on a timely basis and working collaboratively with other team members to ensure month end is closed in a timely manner
- Prepare bank entries and ensure that all transactions are recorded in real time
- Manage the accounting inbox - process vendor invoices after receiving the proper approvals. Respond to vendor’s inquiries.
- Prepare accounts payable reconciliation ensuring that there are no outstanding payments or ensuring payment is received for outstanding credit
- Maintain accounts receivable and ensure proper follow up for outstanding receivables
- Assist with other daily tasks such as monitoring the RAC (Risk Adjusted Capital), firm concentration, firm margin, etc.
- Conduct a thorough analysis to validate the accuracy of reconciliations and reports prior to distribution
- Perform duties as per the SOX controls framework including implementing recommended improvements and monitoring of processes and controls
- Contribute to and lead continuous improvement areas including financial reporting close, regulatory filings, financial reporting for various lines of business, and contributing to organizational initiatives and other projects as required

***You will bring**:

- Financial reporting experience, knowledge and interpretation of IFRS accounting guidelines
- An accounting degree/diploma and/or working towards a designation an asset
- Experience in process improvement including leveraging technology and controls
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and take a collaborative approach
- Ability to present financial information to audiences in a succinct, easy-to-digest manner
- Ability to manage high volumes with a positive and professional attitude
- Excellent time management skills to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities
- Experience in the investment dealer industry would be an asset
